Magic Johnson campaigns for Bill Russell’s No. 6 jersey retirement throughout all NBA teams via Commissioner Adam Silver’s honor

Magic Johnson is calling the attention of NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to award an ultimate honor for the late great Bill Russell.

On Tuesday, Johnson declared that Silver has to retire Russell’s iconic No. 6 jersey across all the teams around the league to pay an all-time recognition to one of the game’s greatest.

The Twitter post of the Los Angeles Lakers legend has gained 23,000 likes and over 1,800 in retweets so far.

Aside from Russell, the No. 6 jersey has been worn by two other iconic players in NBA history like Julius Erving and LeBron James.

Widely regarded as a basketball pioneer, Russell created the way for the league with his leadership, charisma and civil rights activism. The ultimate champion, he won 11 NBA championships as the cornerstone of the Boston Celtics dynasty.

At age 88, Russell died peacefully with his wife Jeannine by his side last July 31. Following the unfortunate news, numerous tributes were released by players, coaches, and fans within the NBA world.

So far, no word is being released yet by Silver with regards to the honorary idea of Johnson for his childhood idol.
