Star guard Donovan Mitchell is deeply contemplating now about the Utah Jazz’ direction moving forward after the departure of Quin Snyder this Sunday.

Shortly after the news that Snyder stepped down as the franchise’ coach, Mitchell was reportedly “unsettled, unnerved and wondering what it means for the franchise’s future” (h/t ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski).

“Mitchell considered Snyder a significant part of his reasoning for committing to a five-year maximum contract extension in 2020, and Snyder’s decision to step away on Sunday has left Mitchell ‘surprised and disappointed,’ sources told ESPN.”

Upon joining the team in 2014, Snyder helped the Jazz to grow as an emerging contender. For eight seasons, he led them to multiple winning seasons, trips to the NBA Playoffs and three division titles.

In a release, Snyder addressed in his resignation that the club “need a new voice to continue to evolve.” Despite the productive seasons he had with Utah, the crafty tactician wasn’t able to lead them to a Conference Finals appearance.

While he dismissed the rumors about his possible end of tenure with the Jazz, Mitchell made it clear that there are things that could change in his squad following their first-round exit against the Dallas Mavericks this 2022 postseason.
