Luka Doncic still high spirited for the Mavs amid Game 1 destruction from Dubs

Luka Doncic isn’t counting out the Dallas Mavericks’ chances yet in their powerhouse encounter with the Golden State Warriors.

Amid the 25-point loss in their Western Conference Finals opener, the Slovenian phenom remains confident that they’ll turn things around in Game 2.

Wearing a battle scar in his face upon the Andrew Wiggins scratch, Doncic said that the confidence is alive and going around, just like what they had against the league-leading Phoenix Suns prior to this series.

“We have to play better and learn from it like we did in the Phoenix series,” Doncic said, per team insider Landon Buford. “The confidence level is the same just like I said in the Phoenix series we believe.”

This Game 1 loss serves as a learning curve for Doncic and the co. The tremendous defense that was imposed by the Warriors held them to a lowly 31-of-86 field goal shooting and an abysmal 22.9 percent efficiency from three-point line (11-48).

Remarkably so, Golden State clamped the superstar swingman to 16.7 contested field goal attempts, the worst so far in his career.

Despite the negativity of their performance, the display of optimism from Doncic plays an impactful one on the Mavs’ side. After being down 0-2 in West Semis against the Suns, they still came up victorious and blasted their west coast opponent out of the postseason picture.

The Warriors are a different breed of an opponent, but the European sensation remains remarkably unfazed by the challenges he has in front.

Game 2 of the series will continue to roll on Friday inside the Chase Center
