Damian Lillard to sit down for the rest of the season – report

Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard won’t play any more games this 2021-2022 season.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania already detailed that though Lillard has been making great progress following his abdominal surgery, the Blazers still opted to shut him down for the rest of the season for rehabilitation purposes.

Damian Lillard will miss the remainder of the season following recovery from abdominal surgery in January, sources said. Lillard is making tremendous progress and has looked strong in workouts, according to sources, but the team decided it was best for Lillard’s rehab process to sit the remaining 12 games as the Trail Blazers play their group of young players.

The shocking transactions made by Portland by shipping CJ McCollum, Norman Powell, Robert Covington, and Larry Nance Jr. away last month were solid indicators of Lillard not suiting up again in this year’s campaign. After playing his last game against the Los Angeles Lakers way back Dec. 31, the 31-year-old guard was shelved due to his ab injury and then went to a successful medical procedure to address the said issue.

Upon Lillard’s extended absence and the disappearance of the supporting unit he had from various trades, Rip City has eroded to 26-44 in the Western Conference. Though it’s been a disastrous season for the franchise, fans still found a silver lining in the emergence of Anfernee Simmons, who is averaging 17.3 points per game to go along with 3.9 assists, 2.6 boards, and 44 percent shooting from the field.

Lillard will exit the 2022 season with an average of 24.0 points in a career-low 40 percent consistency, 7.3 assists, and 4.1 boards.
