Jonathan Kuminga reveals his rookie duties to Klay Thompson

While the style of basketball and even the game rules are changing in the NBA as the years go by, some things are stable. One of them is a tradition for rookie players to be given various duties by their older teammates.

Golden State Warriors rookie Jonathan Kuminga recently revealed his own duty. The 19-year-old power forward brought in a box of chess and checker to a press conference which prompted the media to ask him what that was about.

“I don’t play neither of those games,” Kuminga said in press conference, per Anthony Slater. “I just gotta do my rookie duty and carry it for Klay [Thompson].”

This season, Kuminga is averaging 6.4 points and 2.1 rebounds in 11.2 minutes per game for Golden State. He has been getting more playing time lately and is averaging 18 points per game over the last four games.
