Eric Gordon rumors: Rockets seeking a first-rounder for the veteran guard

The Houston Rockets are reportedly seeking a chance to pick a young prospect in exchange for Eric Gordon.

Per HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Rockets are looking for a first-round draft pick in order to entertain a transaction revolving around Gordon.

“With Gordon healthy and adding a needed veteran presence to a rebuilding Rockets team, Houston is seeking a first-round pick in trade talks for the veteran scoring guard, league sources told HoopsHype.”

Gordon has expressed his openness to be traded away since the offseason to pave away on the growth of Rockets’ promising nucleus that is now composed of Jalen Green, Kevin Porter Jr., and Alperen Sengun. Last December, it was rumored that the veteran guard was discussed internally within the New York Knicks brass about their possible trade targets this season.

Standing at 6’2″ and having a muscular body frame, Gordon is widely regarded as a professional two-way player with a sizzling shooting touch. If healthy, he is a reliable backup scorer who can grab a bucket in three levels. He is currently averaging 14.9 points, 3.3 assists and a career-high 50.5 percent shooting from the area in around 29 minutes of play.

Based on the offer sheet he signed with the franchise in 2019, the 33-year-old has one more guaranteed season in his contract for next year, added by a non-guaranteed $20.9 million service for the 2023-2024 season.

With H-town continuing to lean on the development of their young core, it’ll be interesting to see if they are willing to part ways with Gordon, who has been praised for his professionalism and mentorship. Nevertheless, the current longest-tenured Rocket will be a good serviceable player if once landed in one of the contending teams around the NBA.
