Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving might be able to suit up his basketball gear soon in this 75th season of the league.
New York City mayor-elect Eric Adams is planning to “revisit” his city’s vaccine mandate guidelines for municipal workers once he takes the oath, as reported by the New York Post.
“We need to revisit how we are going to address the vaccine mandates. Now, I stated I did not want to Monday-morning-quarterback the mayor [Bill de Blasio]. This is his time to be the man, he has to make the decisions,” Adams said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” per the NY Post.
Adams stated that until the month of January next year the discussion will exist to change the vaccine mandate.
Last month, the Nets shelved Irving from team activities — citing its part-time availability issues moving forward if he ever goes active in the lineup. The guard remains unvaccinated, and stands firm on this “personal choice” via Instagram .
Nets owner Joe Tsai didn’t speak with Irving since the announcement of his organization’s decision. As such, he said that the team will always welcome him if he finally decides to play and follow the city’s guidelines.
Recently, superstar Kevin Durant admitted that the team is currently missing the presence of the seven-time All-star, yet clarified that they are still in good progress in trying to be consistent collectively.
“Yeah, we do miss Kyrie. We do,” Durant said recently. “He’s a part of our team but for the most part we’ve been generating great shots, we’ve been getting into the paint. It’s just a matter of us knocking them down. I think it will come.”
The 4-3 Nets will combat Trae Young and the visiting Atlanta Hawks later tonight inside Barclays Center.
