The news about the vaccines, which includes players who’ve had one dose, comes at a time where unvaccinated players prepare for losses of salary for games missed in the Bay Area where the Golden State Warriors play and New York, home of the Knicks and Nets due to local government rulings.

The story of unvaccinated stars, which includes Brooklyn Nets’ Kyrie Irving and Washington’s Bradley Beal dominated the headlines, but teams have revealed that a number of factors including education on the vaccine and its overall safety, have contributed to the increase.

This includes Golden State’s Andrew Wiggins, who had refused to take the vaccine on religious grounds, but received the dose after his appeal to the league was rejected.

Near the opening of camp, the NBA had approximately 90% of its players vaccinated, again with either one or two doses.

The NBA and the Players Association agreed on the policies for unvaccinated players this season, including the possibility of isolation from fellow teammates and staff.

League protocols require unvaccinated players to be under the majority of the same restrictions that the NBA played under for the vast majority of last season, before the vaccine was available.

On the other hand, the vaccinated players will have fewer restrictions and will continue on as normal.

All fully vaccinated players, as well as Tier 1 personnel, which includes coaches and anyone else working regularly within 15 feet of players and referees, will not have to undergo daily testing.

Teams have also been instructed to have their seating arrangements altered to prevent players that aren’t fully vaccinated from sitting together.

One rule that hasn’t changed for players, regardless of whether they are vaccinated and unvaccinated players is the use of face masks. Everyone will have to wear at all times in team facilities, when traveling with the team and where otherwise required under applicable federal, state, or local laws.

Team staff, as well as NBA referees, are required to be vaccinated. with exceptions only applying to the players who play in those markets; out-of-market players are exempted from them.

It is also revealed that players who are forced to miss games due to those orders will not be paid for any games that they miss.
