Los Angeles Lakers newcomer Malik Monk was the top performer on the team in terms of scoring during the preseason opening loss to the Brooklyn Nets.

The 23-year-old shooting guard came off the bench to score 15 points in 22 minutes of play, making 3/6 three-pointers. Lakers star Anthony Davis, who played 11 minutes early in the game, said the team is still surprised that they were able to get Monk this past offseason.

“We’re still surprised we got him, to be honest. Hell of a player,” the 28-year-old forward said postgame. “He saw what he did in the minutes that he played. He could score the ball on all three levels, play hard, make the right reads. He is going to be fun to have this year.
