Shabazz Napier to miss time with serious injury to ankle ligaments

Zenit St. Petersburg star guard Shabazz Napier suffered a serious injury to the ligaments, but he will not have to undergo surgery to repair the issue.

Napier suffered the injury during the Final of VTB League Super Cup against CSKA Moscow, and after thorough examination the Russian club announced the nature of the injury.

General manager Alexander Tserkovny explained that situation in Zenit’s official Twitter account, claiming that recovery time is still unknown.

“Shabazz Napier underwent a comprehensive examination. He has a rather serious injury to the ligaments of the right ankle joint. On the positive side, I can say that there is no fracture and, therefore, there is no need for surgery, of the minuses, the recovery time is still unknown. We have all the necessary conditions to get him back on the floor quickly. All is needed is the support of the fans,” Tserkovny said.

Napier moved to Europe for the first time in career. He had an impressive game with Zenit, putting up 33 points, on 8-11 shooting, vs. UNICS in the first VTB SuperCup contest.
