Kristaps Porzingis says he grew up trying to imitate Lakers’ star Carmelo Anthony

Los Angeles Lakers’ veteran star Carmelo Anthony became a basketball icon early in his career thanks to his ability to score under any circumstance.

The Dallas Mavericks forward/center Kristaps Porzingis recalled how he was inspired by the now Lakers star growing up. He also posted a photo that showed him wearing a Denver Nuggets shirt and copying Melo’s headband look.

Anthony played with Porzingis for two seasons in New York. The Lakers’ forward took Porzingis under his wing during that time, however Melo did not experience Porzingis’ explosion into stardom during the 2017-18 season.

Now, Anthony, who joined the Lakers this past offseason, will face Porzingis as a conference rival. The Latvian big remained with the Mavericks, as he hopes to become a legit co-star alongside Luka Doncic this season.
