ALBA Berlin signs German BBL’s MVP Jaleen Smith

ALBA Berlin came to an agreement with German League’s MVP Jaleen Smith for a three-year deal to close their roster, the team announced on Wednesday.

Smith is coming off a great season with MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg, as he registered 15.2 points, 5.3 assists, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game.

The 26-year-old guard was named BBL’s Most Valuable Player in 2021. He will get his first taste of EuroLeague action, after starting his career in Germany with USC Heidelberg.

He spent the last two seasons with Ludwigsburg, as the team finished third in the German BBL’s regular season last season. Smith also competed in the Las Vegas 2021 Summer League with the Phoenix Suns, before signing with ALBA.

“ALBA is a very good place for me. I’ve only heard good things about the family atmosphere in the club, and ALBA’s style of play suits me very well. I’m really looking forward to competing with ALBA in the EuroLeague with the best teams in Europe,” Smith said in his first statement as a member of his new team.
