Kawhi Leonard is expected to become a free agent this offseason as he enters the last year of his contract with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Leonard will opt out of his current deal and will demand a more lucrative multi-year contract. The last few days, several reports suggested Leonard will remain with the Clippers, however, this is not a safe assumption anymore, per Marc Stein of NY Times.
Stein suggested that it is “no longer a safe assumption” that Leonard will remain with the Clippers, and the Dallas Mavericks, Miami Heat, and New York Knicks will try to lure the forward away.
Leonard will miss a huge amount of the next season due to a knee injury that occurred during the series vs. the Utah Jazz in the Western Conference semifinals.
In two seasons with the Clippers, Kawhi Leonard has averaged 26 points, 6.8 rebounds, and five assists per game. He’s led the Clippers to the playoffs twice, including their first-ever Western Conference Finals appearance this year.
