Suns’ Monty Williams takes blame for removing Chris Paul from fourth quarter of Game 2 loss vs. Lakers

Chris Paul was not his usual self in Game 2 of the series between the Lakers and the Suns. Phoenix head coach Monty Williams said it was his decision to remove Chris Paul from the final seven minutes of his team’s 109-102 loss.

Paul suffered a shoulder contusion during the Suns’ Game 1 win over the Lakers. He played 23 minutes in Game 2 of the series registering six points, five assists and three rebounds on 2-of-5 shooting.

“It was all me,” Williams admitted. “Just looking at him, holding his arm the way that he was holding it, I just couldn’t watch him run like that. He was trying to make plays, he battled. He’s a warrior, we all know that, and I just made a decision to take him out.”

The Suns will look to bounce back after losing the home-court advantage as they set to face the Lakers again on Thursday.
