Bulls’ Lauri Markkanen interested in teaming up with Luka Doncic, Kristaps Porzingis

Chicago Bulls’ Lauri Markkanen, who will be a restricted free agent this offseason, reportedly privately wants to land with the Dallas Mavericks and team up with Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis, according to Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times.

The Bulls will be able to match any offer that Markkanen receives if they choose.

The Mavericks will have a good amount of cap space this offseason and could use another three-point shooter like Markkanen, but his skill set is similar to Porzingis, which may not be a fit for the them.

If he doesn’t end up with the Mavericks, the New York Knicks could pursue him, as they will have the most cap room of any NBA team and could use more shooting.

Markkanen, 24, averaged a career-low 13.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game, but he did shoot a career-high 40.2 percent from three-point.

He also played in less than 53 games for the third time in his four-year NBA career.
