Joel Embiid on Sixers’ winning streak: “We haven’t really played good teams”

Joel Embiid was crucial against the New Orleans Pelicans Friday leading the Philadelphia 76ers to a close-fought win over the ‘Zion-less’ Pelicans.

This win extended Sixers’ streak to seven, however Philadelphia’s superstar Joel Embiid is not excited with his team’s recent victories.

“We haven’t really played good teams, Embiid said prior to the game vs. New Orleans. “Right before [this stint], we played Milwaukee twice, Phoenix, Steph (Curry) when he was hot and making everything. So, we had a couple of tough games against really good teams. Lately, games have been easier, and that’s why we’ve dominated.”

Prior to their seven-game winning streak, the 76ers lost four matchups in a row against tough competition including the Milwaukee Bucks (twice), the Golden State Warriors and the Phoenix Suns.

They came back with seven wins against inferior teams or shorthanded squads. The Sixers fellow star Ben Simmons was not exactly happy with how the Sixers handled themselves against the short-handed Pelicans.

“We gotta do a better job,” said Simmons. “When we have the lead, we’ve got to hold it. Everyone needs to hold each other accountable on that, and we gotta play better defense.

I think overall, we didn’t really stop the ball, we let too many drives get into the lane, so we got to a better job,” the All-Star concluded.

The Sixers have five games remaining for the end of the regular season leading the Eastern Conference with the best record (46-21), thanks to their latest winning streak.
