Anthony Davis played just 9 minutes as the Lakers were blown out by the Clippers at Staples Center. The 28-year-old forward had to leave the game early due to back spasms.

This was the seventh loss in the last nine games for the reigning NBA champions as they continue to drop down the standings and are now on the brink of dropping to the play-in tournament.

The next game for the Lakers is against the Trail Blazers, a team that sits right below them and shares the same record as Los Angeles. A loss would mean that the two teams would switch places in the standings.

Despite the struggles, the Lakers locker room is in high spirit, according to Davis. “The spirit in the locker is still high. They guys came in after the game and said ‘Put it behind us, we got another [game] tomorrow.’ So guys are still great with their minds and their spirit about the rest of the season,” he said.

“Obviously we are fighting for a playoff spot and tomorrow’s probably the biggest game left of these games. Guys are still optimistic and we’re still fighting and guys’ spirits are still high.”
