The Portland Trail Blazers plan to fill their final open roster spot in the coming weeks via trade or the buyout market, according to Jason Quick of The Athletic.
The team will be looking to add a player who will “unquestionably be in the rotation for the remainder of the season.”
This does not include free agent center DeMarcus Cousins, as the Trail Blazers are not considering signing him, per Quick.
Instead of making a major move, the Trail Blazers will simply look to bring in a player who can be a more reliable contributor than some current players off the bench like Anfernee Simons, Nassir Little and Rodney Hood.
A wing player who can shoot that would be an ideal target for the Trail Blazers is Chicago Bulls’ Otto Porter Jr.
Porter, who is a player that Trail Blazers president Neil Olshey has liked for a long time, would only be a realistic target if he is ultimately bought out by the Bulls, notes Quick.
If the Trail Blazers don’t make a move for a wing player, they would reportedly turn their focus to a backup point guard, according to Quick.
Simons has filled that role this season and has shot the ball well (41.1 percent from three-point), but has been shaky at times handling the ball.
