Tom Thibodeau did not see Jimmy Butler as a superstar in Chicago

Jimmy Butler faced his former head coach Tom Thibodeau Sunday as the Miami Heat defeated the New York Knicks to secure the second win in a row.

Tom Thibodeau talked on his perception around Butler, when he was in Chicago, as the Heat’s superstar flirted with the triple-double in Miami’s 109-103 win over his team.

“To say we saw him as a superstar, we didn’t see that.” Now sees Butler as, “one of the elite players in the league,” the veteran head coach said.

Butler finished the contest vs. New York with 17 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists to complete another solid all-around performance after missing time due to injuries and NBA’s health protocols at the start of the season.

Being the 30th pick of the 2011 NBA Draft, Butler was not expected to become a star in the league. However, his hard work and his ability to become an all-around star made him a credible superstar in the league.

Last season, Butler led the Miami Heat to the NBA Finals showcasing his leadership skills as the young Miami Heat team made out of the East to play against the Lakers in the Finals.
