Portland Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts said that he expects newly acquired Derrick Jones Jr. and Robert Covington to be the starting forwards on opening night.

Stotts also made it known that Carmelo Anthony knows his role on the team and that he’d be okay with coming off the bench.

This confirms Trail Blazers GM Neil Olshey’s recent comments that Anthony would “likely” come off the bench this upcoming season.

Stotts also said that better defensive teams have versatility and length on the perimeter and the Trail Blazers improved in that aspect of the game with the addition of Jones and Covington, plus the return of Rodney Hood from his torn Achilles.

The Trail Blazers will once again be a contender in the sure-to-be competitive Western Conference.
