The Detroit Pistons are trading guard Bruce Brown to the Brooklyn Nets for forward Dzanan Musa and a 2021 second round pick, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

The 2021 second round pick sent to the Pistons won’t ultimately be the Nets’ own pick, as it will be via the Toronto Raptors’ 2021 second-rounder, Wojnarowski adds.

The Nets like Brown’s defensive ability, as he averaged 1.1 steals per game and had a 15-game streak of at least one steal last season from Dec. 20 to Jan. 20.

Brown, 24, also made progress on offense last season in his second year in the NBA, averaging 8.9 points per game and shooting 44.3 percent from the field.

He could prove to be a solid fixture in the Nets rotation if the team ultimately trades Spencer Dinwiddie, who has received trade interest from multiple teams.

A second round pick in 2018, Brown started 99 games out of 132 for the Pistons in his two seasons with the team.

For the Pistons, this is the first trade of the Troy Weaver era (new general manager), where the Pistons start the process of “gathering future picks and assets,” Wojnarowski notes.

Musa, who was also selected in the 2018 draft at No. 29, only played 49 games for the Nets in his first two NBA seasons, but he’s still only 21 years old.

This past season, he averaged 4.8 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.

On a Pistons team headed towards a rebuild, Musa could get plenty of playing time.

The trade moratorium ends at noon, so the teams can finalize the deal anytime after that.
