The NBA is targeting Dec. 11-19 for 2020-2021 preseason and teams have the option of requesting three or four games, according to Shams Charania.

Each team must also host at least one home game before the regular season tips off on Dec. 22.

The idea of a shortened preseason, or no preseason, caused some concern for players and agents in terms of preventing injuries, as the eight teams not included in the NBA restart haven’t played since March.

On the other hand, the offseason for the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat will last a little less than two months.

In a traditional schedule, teams that play in the NBA Finals usually get about a three-month offseason.

This year, the NBA is facing the shortest offseason (71 days from the end of the Finals in mid-October to a Dec. 22 start date) in the history of the four major North American professional sports leagues, according to Elias Sports Bureau data.
