Play-in tournaments to be part of NBA’s future plans

The NBA play-in tournament for the final playoff seeds in each conference will likely be included in the NBA return plan, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

The format would be a four-team tournament among the Nos. 7, 8, 9 and 10 seeds for the final two playoff spots in the Eastern and Western Conference.

That setup gives the teams who finish the regular season seventh and eighth two chances to secure a postseason berth.

The Nos. 9 and 10 teams would have to win twice without losing in order to secure one of those two spots, Wojnarowski also notes.

The setup would favor those teams that earned higher seeds (Nos. 7 and 8) in the regular season, but the lower seeds (Nos. 9 and 10) would still be given a chance if they are playing well.

It was first reported last week that the NBA wanted to make play-in games a permanent part of the NBA schedule in the future.
