Summer basketball tournaments and friendlies (pre-Eurobasket)
^ Hopefully. Really, I wish we played serious opponents for all our preparatory games vs. Spain, Russia, Serbia (no fighting tho <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' /> ), etc.

We could even invite Argentina or Brazil to take part in the Acropolis tournament for example. I don't see any value playing small-time teams like Poland and Bosnia.

It seems that our team already will have a dignified presence in this Eurobasket tournament. I hope we get better team cohesion as we play each new friendly <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
That's so true!

Is unacceptable that we don't have not even one high level friendly game arranged(except Turkey and Russia). We should play with teams like Serbia(indeed without fighting <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' /> ), Spain and France. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

However is not too late. Montenegro announced that it will not participate in Acropolis tournament(the game between Greece and Montenegro was scheduled for the last day of the tournament), so we can invite another team to replace Montenegro. Why not Spain?! <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

I think we can do without playing with the French. We should be playing against Spain at least a couple of times. Gotta learn their weakness well enough to finally beat them <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

Brigham Young University of Utah will be the team that will replace Montenegro in Acropolis tournament.

Ok... that's didiculous. We are talking about the last tournament before Eurobasket. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thudown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thudown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/angry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Angry' />

Yet another loss for Israel, this time against Georgia 97-91, we look like shit (even though Casspi and Halperin were missing) if Casspi doesn't get over his injury we've got no chance to do anything in the Eurobasket, the good old fighting spirit seems to be gone, conceding so many point a few games in a row can only mean that players don't give a shit on defense.. Unless the players get themselves together and Casspi will be healed on time we're gonna get humiliated against Serbia Germany and France.

When there were better Israelis/more Israelis in the highest level Maccabi relied on them. The problem as you can see in all u16, u18 etc teams is that players are built wrong, they're not working with the younger kids and that's the problem, that's why all youth teams got to division B. Maccabi is not the one to blame.

And the problem in 2009 and this year in preparation is more the absence of the star player of the team (casspi which I hope will be back on time) because even with Maccabi relying mostly on foreign player we stayed quite steady in the mid-level of Europe since 1995 to 2007, always making it to 2nd round and once making it to QF (2003) although it's far from the success of 1970s but that's because things has changed, there is no money in the youth teams and coaches of youth teams prefer success in inner-competition rather than improving the players and giving them the basics.

I didn't say that Maccabi is to blame, I was just pointing that focus of the money is on clubs not the NT, as you stated. The system is bad in Israel, all can see that because it is not lack of talent...

I agree, I mean it's not like the talent here is at the top level of Europe but it's higher then what we see these days in the youth teams. the place where u can see it the best is the work with big-men.. it simply seems like coaches here don't know how to work with them, that's why you see guys like Eliyahu (2.07) that has no normal post game, no jump shot and on the other hand has the dribbling abilities of a guard and can lead a fast-break.. You can simply see no coach has seriously worked with him on defense and his weird shot is obviously self-developed (and sure goes in with high %) but if they were working with him on how to work on defense, if they were improving his jump shot he may have been living up to his potential which is definitely worth NBA

GB kept it close vs Croatia tonight, lost 75-70, we were down by 17 but a 14-0 run in the fourth quarter took it to 69-66 but couldn't quite get it done. Both teams missing players - Deng for GB, Bogdanovic for Croatia. Surprised Barac only got less than 10 minutes but I guess they're working players in...

The game wasn't shown or streamed anywhere so impossible to see it unless you were there, but I wonder how the absence of Ukic for Croatia meant we had more of a chance, as point guard is a real weakness in the GB team and Parker destroyed them yesterday. Not sure who Croatia had running the point, Popovic I guess. Won't get any easier tomorrow with Teodosic to deal with, but its important to get these games in against the top opposition. As ever, Deng will make a big difference, but it's heartening to see Freeland play so well (from the stats anyway).

In the Acropolis tournament, 'Brigham Young University' is taking part. Seriously? Are university level kids going to be an accepted standard for warming up the Greek NT for a Eurobasket? <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mellow.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Mellow' /> <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' /> <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/angry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Angry' />

Serbia is having some major issues in the last few games. We rn't playing on the expected level. I just hope that there will be enough time to fill the gaps...
