Quote:In a rather unexpected turn of events the Angelopoulos family have decided to quit Olympiacos BC and Greek basketball alltogether. Read their announcement and TalkBasket's analysis of Olympiacos future. The official statement is as follows:

"Our involvement with Olympiacos BC was based purely on our love for the club and basketball, without expecting any kind of financial or other return.

We decided to finance Olympiacos in 2004 without any considerations and in 2006 we took over the team's management while we became the major shareholde3rs of Olympiacos BC in 2009.

We have managed to achieve some things for which we are proud:

- Olympiacos became a respectable name in basketball, inside and outside Greece.

Wow.. That's a huge hit for Oly, unless they find some sucker with deep pockets they're going to be in a huge problem. Something quite similar happened to my favorite football team, a rich owner put a lot of money and decided to leave after a while leaving the team with huge contracts they can't afford but he also wouldn't sell the club, he insists on keeping it despite not putting any money.

It's not easy to go down to normal budget after living for a while with endless budget, but I hope that their name will help them bring someone who can keep them at high competitive level in Europe.

Too bad for Greek and European basketball. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thudown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

As you all know Giannakopoulos brothers(PAO's owners) are searching for investors to sell the team. If these two families leave PAO and OSFP this will probably be the end of Greek -club- basketball(at least for some years) <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' /> <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' /> <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Huh' /> but it may be good for young Greeks to prove their talent. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> As a result we will have MANY great players in contrast with nowadays that we don't have not even 10 top level players(top level=final four level, let's say!)

**I think that Giannakopoulos brothers will do a good job on finding their successor! I hope they will find someone who love the team because the only reason for someone to buy a basketball team is to love the club because there is no comparison between income and outcome.

It's not a bad thing that PAO and Oly become 'normal' teams again <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

I made this topic in the Greek section too, didn't notice this one up in here. I think it's time the league focuses more on local talent, on players that can PLAY, and not players who actually pay money to become professionals. It makes me sick with the state of sport here (obviously along with everything else being corrupt and disorganized to the bone), it's high time those best to do the job get their rightful position.

I for one am pretty tired with PAO and Oly monopolizing the domestic titles, I wonder if it's their turn to start fighting to stay in the A1 too? <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rofl3.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rofl3' />
