Euroleague QFs
#1
After one of the best top 16 stages we've seen in the last years in the Euroleague, it's time for the QFs with some very interesting match-ups:The tallest team in the EL vs. the shortest one, a basketball super-clasico and an interesting series between CSKA and Caja Laboral (and ofcourse, the predictable oly-prokom <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mellow.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Mellow' /> )

So what are your predictions for the QF results?

QF1

Barcelona vs. Real Madrid 3-1

QF2

Maccabi Tel Aviv vs. Partizan Belgrade 3-2

QF3

CSKA Moscow vs. Caja Laboral 3-2/2-3

QF4

Olympiacos vs. Asseco Prokom 3-0

The games will be played at:

Tuesday, March 23rd

Thursday, March 25th

Tuesday, March 30th

If necessary:

Thursday, April 1st

Wednesday, April 7th

Hopefully we'll see some surprises and some predictions will be wrong because it would be great to see some of the underdogs reaching the Final Four finally. As I said in my other post, Barca, Maccabi, CSKA Moscow and Olympiacos are the favourites of the respective quarter-final pairs.

Caja Laboral have probably the best chance of advancing among the "underdogs". If they can get at least one win in Moscow then these series might be really interesting. Splitter will be back for the quarter-finals, won't he? That should give some more power under the basket for the Spaniards. CSKA showed they are still a power in Europe but maybe it's time to not qualify for the Final Four? <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' /> 3-1 for CSKA.

Barca vs. Real could be a very entertaining series. Though Real are unpredictable this year. They can lose against any team and they can beat any team. Barca has been showing decent basketball and they are much more consistent. Plus the pressure will be put on Real to get results so unless Messina does something extraordinary, Barca should win the series especially since they have home court advantage. 3-1 for Barca

Sorry to disappoint you Hodael, but I will be rooting for Partizan. It would be a great accomplishment for them to reach the Final Four this year. Maccabi might lose a game or even two in Belgrade (whether it's in Pionir or Belgrade Arena) but again I think that the home court advantage will be crucial here. But it will definitely be very interesting to see two different style teams face each other. 3-2 for Maccabi.

Unless Olympiacos relax too much and give away one win to Asseco Prokom, this will be a 3-0 sweep. Oly is one of the favourites to win EL this year as they are even better than last year. Meanwhile Prokom surprised Europe by reaching quarter-finals but recently they're struggling in both EL and Polish league. Is it because they are already thinking about the quarter-finals or they simply lost their shape after a very good period, remains unknown.

I should also note that my predictions are wrong in probably 90% cases lol.

Well actaully Not losing in Belgrade will be a surprise, but I really can't see partizan getting any close to victory in any of the games in tel aviv.

I believe that as you said cska-caja is the only really open series (ofcourse maccabi-partizan will be tight too but as I said, I can't see a team like partizan winning in tel aviv)

And don't worry, this time you can actually get em all right <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

Damn that's creepy, I mean, an average Euroleague player will be shocked in the second they enter the arena, I hope Maccabi players will act like pros and get over it quick and make us proud <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

BTW, are both games in Belgrade arena? cuz i thought one was in Belgrade Arena and one in Pionir cuz of 50 cent.

Lasme could miss the games in Belgrade due to passport problems so there won't be anyone to prepare the players for what to expect <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I think that only the first game is locked in Belgrade Arena and the other one is likely to be played in Pionir.

I heard about the problem with Lasme but i believe (more like hope <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' /> ) that it'll be solved, i mean without Lasme and against Partizan's big men (and in Belgrade) it's like commiting suicide <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Ohmy' />

Executives of Belgrade Arena have decided that Partizan can play second game in Belgrade Arena if necessary. As for the American rapper "50 Cent" he will hold a concert in Pionir Arena.Because for the current information is sold only 700 tickets.

Basketball Club Partizan will give fans of Israeli Maccabi 23 tickets for the game (or games) in the Arena, writes portal kosarka.rs.

Although, according to sources, the portal, the Israeli fans were very interested in coming to Belgrade, Serbian government champion decided that the 23 tickets as provided for Maccabi fans Partizan for the first matches in Tel Aviv answered the same number of tickets.

And Partizan fans would like were much larger number in Tel Aviv, but Israeli club decided to give 23 tickets and reciprocity is a large number of disabled supporters 'Pride of Israel' to come to Serbia.

Maccabi fans have already booked about 6,000 tickets for the Euroleague Final Four in Paris Bersa writes kosarka.rs

Won't the concert be cancelled because of that? Serbians surely love rap <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

It is true that the Serbs love rap.But the Serbs buy later tickets as regards music concerts. And when it comes to sports, then then disappear for a short time.

I wish i could catch a game in belgrade arena. Unfortunately i have no time. I do however believe that partizan will grab a win in tel aviv and advance to the f4 (or at least i hope so <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yahoo.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Yahoo' /> ). Not cause i dislike maccabi, but because i wanna see a the first major upset in many years.

As for the other games, oly will obviously advance easily, cska imo will pass through caja laboral and barca will rape real

Maccabi - Partizan 2-3

Olympiacos - Prokom 3-0

CSKA- Caja Laboral 3-1

Barcelona - Real 3-0

By the way, can Partizan beat the attendance record (22,567) this time? Wikipedia says there are 23,000 seats in Belgrade Arena so there's still some room for a new record.

given that they pack the pionir with 8k when the official cap is 7k, i am hoping to see a new record of 24k <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/crazy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Crazy' />

Of course they can pack more people.I know when Barcelona played in Pionir (5-6 weeks ago).Administration of BC Partizan they increase the capacity from regulary 7.200 to around 9.000.Many people were standing instead sitting.

As they told will be around 15.000 tickets on sale and with annual tickets 7.000 that will be together 22.000 maybe more...
