No surprises here. CSKA will be a very tough opponent in the play-offs in spite of losing some of their stars before this season.

CSKA hd a very tough beggining, including a huge defeat here in Tel Aviv, but than they woke up and since than they're definatly one of the best teams in Europe, they're way to the final four shouldn't be to tough i won't be surprised at all to see them in Paris.

Soon Pao-Maroussi, a very interesting match, will Pao let maroussi win? if Maroussi wins, Partizan will have to win in Barcelona to make it to the final 8, it'l be 1st place or 3rd place for them, will make it very interesting.

Maccabi-real should also be a very interesting match, especially after Pini oversmarted Mesina (with weaker roster) in Tel Aviv, Real will look for both revange, and not meeting Barca.. Especially after Barca's 80-61 over real in the spanish cup final...

On one hand Panathinaikos want to finish their season in Euroleague in a good mood and show that they aren't so bad this year. On the other hand, there's a choice whether to help another Greek team to reach the quarter-finals or play for the win and help Partizan. Personally, I don't think there will be any deals agreed before the game. Though we can still speculate about that. The game itself will show whether there was an attempt to fix it or not.

Despite how good Real's roster is they still not playing to their full potential. And since Maccabi is on emotional high they could take the win in Madrid. I just hope that the winner will be fair and referees won't help either team.

About Pao-Marrousi, Pao's pride is hurt already anyway, plus they have some players who can't play, plus they are playing with a team that can make it to the final 8 if they win (and Partizan loses) so Marrousi will be alot more ambitious, that's sure

about Maccabi-Real, one thing is sure, unless something surprising would happen itr should be one of the best games we've seen this season, i hope in the end The best team wins (Maccabi ofcoure <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />)

Amazing finish by Maccabi! 30-19 in the last quarter, it's unbelieveable! Pini is simply amazing, i feel baad for Messina after Pini kicked his ass twice in one month <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

Top eight teams in Europe have less than two weeks to prepare for the most important battles this season so far. There were only two play-off spots to be taken in the last game of the Top 16 with five teams having the chance to move to the next round. Serbian giants Partizan will be fighting for a place in the Final Four once again despite losing away at Barcelona. Panathinaikos won by three points against another Greek club Maroussi and this result opened the door for Partizan.

In Group H three teams (Caja Laboral, Cibona and Khimki) had chances to finish second behind Olympiacos and qualify for the play-offs. Khimki played very well at home against the Greek giants winning the game by 13 points after being ahead in double digits for the major part of the game. Despite showing the best performance according to Sergio Scariolo, Russian club was eliminated as their main competitor for a play-off spot, Caja Laboral, managed to win against Cibona by the margin they needed in order to finish on top of Khimki.

Spaniards could have lost at home against Cibona easily as they were down by 12 in the second part of the fourth quarter. However, they managed to close the gap and force an overtime. Caja Laboral used the additional five minutes of the game to increase their lead to 12 points - a margin which was more than enough to beat Khimki in final standings of Group H as Russians had points differential of -11 after the win against Olympiacos. Meanwhile, a 12-point win by Caja Laboral gave them a -6 points differential.

Ettore Messina's Real Madrid failed to win the battle for the first place in Group F after losing a low scoring game against Maccabi. Thanks to this result Israeli club will avoid facing Barcelona that is been playing probably the best basketball in Europe at the moment. They will face a surprise package Asseco Prokom. Barcelona will take on arch rivals Real Madrid in fight for a place in the Final Four in Paris. Barca has already beaten Real Madrid in the ACB rather easily this season.

All quarter-final (best of five) pairs:

Barcelona - Real Madrid

Maccabi - Partizan

CSKA Moscow - Caja Laboral

Olympiacos - Asseco Prokom

Dates:

CSKA Moscow 84-71 Zalgiris

Panathinaikos 82-79 Maroussi

Asseco Prokom 63-82 Unicaja

Caja Laboral 102-90 Cibona

Khimki 96-83 Olympiacos

Barcelona 82-64 Partizan

Montepaschi 93-87 Efes Pilsen

Real Madrid 64-66 Maccabi

Messina is really struggling in making his new team reach their potential. Maccabi once again proved that.

I am not sure which factor was more important in Khimki's win over Olympiacos. Whether the Greeks had too little motivation or Khimki were too good. Whatever happened, Khimki did all that was in their power to reach quarter-finals.

Meanwhile Cibona's loss against Caja Laboral was a bit weird. Cibona missed four free-throws in row and then Caja Laboral drew the overtime and won by the right margin. Maybe that was just a coincidence.

Looking at the quarter-final pairs it seems that all Final Four participants can be easily predicted even before the start of the play-offs. It should be Barca, Maccabi, CSKA Moscow and Olympiacos. Real and Caja Laboral could provide slight surprises if they manage qualify. Though if Asseco Prokom or Partizan go through then it will be a shock. When was the last time we saw a surprise qualifier in the Final Four?

Partizan would have been my pick to advance with home court advantage, but Maccabi have that and I don't see Partizan winning a game in NOKIA.

Olympiacos can start packing for Paris, Prokom aren't even a proper warm up for the Final Four.

I was rooting for Khimki to advance over Caja so we get a great Russian derby in the 1/4 finals vs CSKA, but it was not to be. I think CSKA should make quick work of Caja, who have been underwhelming this season IMO.

Messina's Galacticos failed (and a day after Pellegrini's...ouch), and Barcelona will demolish them.

I agree about Olympiakos, they'll sweep Prokom.

About Maccabi: the home advantage is very important here. I can't see Partizan win in Nokia, but even they do, MTA can win in the "Paionir".

Barca will enjoy to destroy Real.

CSKA vs. Caja can be great series.
