The Greek Situation
#1
Well, the options say it all. what is your opinion? Imo no one should help the thieving bastards, as obviously they are not prepared to change their ways. Greece is in this dire situation and has already lost about 2 billion euro in 2010 due to the numerous strikes and protests for the new harsh measures in just 2 months. What all these people who strike don't get is that their situation will become way worse if those measures were not applied. Always short-sighted and always selfish. And always it's someone else's fault: the evil Germans, the markets etc etc

I'm not the biggest specialist about the situation in Greece, but from what I heard the main issue lies on the government which is tremendously corrupt and bureaucracy just eating all the money. IMO, strike is good weapon to get the goals if the goals are reasonable, the problem lies not here. IMO, Greece should clean up their own political mess and if Greece really needs help from anyone, that should be political and ideological help. What comes to my minds, this is the result of corruption when private sector goes hand in hand with the government and too much trust of Laissez-faire leads to the nightmare for working class (regular people). That's pretty much the same in all countries ("democtratic") in the different sizes though. I would say, Greece should insist for clearer government system and to control the private sector more. I don't think Greece will go anywhere with just grabbing "financial help". As I understand their dept is tremendous.

Corruption is a huge problem. Especially if it lasts for a long time. Everyone gets used to that and the system sucks in new people. I don't think it's possible that the government will change its policy overnight and get rid of the corruption. All the help coming from outside the country only solves a temporary problems. Moreover, only a part of the financial help reaches its final destination. The rest stays in the pockets of "the right" people.

If there is no help from the outside then the Greek politicians can use this fact to justify themselves in front of the people. They can easily blame other countries for not helping them.

There must be some major changes. Maybe the younger generation is not so corrupt? The whole government must be replaced with new people.

Unless there is a huge pressure to make changes nothing will happen.

you describe the situation pretty good. the problem is that even young people have interests in voting for those politicians, either direct or indirect. Everybody wants to be a civil servant in greece and the best way to do it is to join the youth of a party and try to get to know some politicians that could get you a spot...

no, it's not. it's the people's mentality. it's a dog-eat-dog culture with no plan for the long term future. unfortunately. why do you think that over 80% of the population votes for the two big parties? cause they have financial interests if their party gets elected

I'm not wel aware of the Greek politics, anyway I think that if you're part of a union it's not just for the good days but also for the bad days and I think that the other union countries should support them (with loans, not by giving money for nothing) and help them change their bad mentality instead of letting them screw themselves.
