Quote:TURKEY BOUND – Slovenia’s Udrih turns on the style for Sacramento

LOS ANGELES (2010 FIBA World Championship) - Slovenia point guards Beno Udrih and Goran Dragic were in fine fettle over the weekend and helped their NBA teams claim victories.

Udrih had 20 points and a career-high 17 assists to fire Sacramento to victory at the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday.

The 27-year-old, starting in place of the injured rookie Tyreke Evans, also came up with two steals.

In Sacramento's narrow defeat to Milwaukee on Friday, Udrih played 45 minutes and had 26 points and nine assists.

The Kings are just 24-46 but Udrih says there are positives to draw from.

"We're obviously young and don't have the most experience, but we play hard every night and we have a lot of room to grow together," Udrih said.

"From the beginning of this year to where we are now, and with the talent we have, we've shown a lot of growth."

Udrih had been set to play for Slovenia at last summer's EuroBasket in Poland before an injury late in the preparation period knocked him out of the tournament.

Dragic, who serves as Steve Nash's back-up in Phoenix, had eight points and two assists in 17 minutes to help the Suns prevail 93-87 over Portland on Sunday.

Phoenix are in fifth place in the NBA's Western Conference, a game behind Utah (45-25) and two and a half adrift of third-place Dallas (46-23).

Slovenia's national team point guards were in action in Europe as well, with Jaka Lakovic among them.

Lakovic scored seven points and handed out two assists in less than 10 minutes of action for Regal Barcelona in their 86-79 victory at Caja Laboral.

The Catalan club are an ACB-best 24-2 and three games clear of second-place Real Madrid.

Barca's other Slovenian, big man Erazem Lorbek, had 14 points and five rebounds.

Another Slovenia playmaker, Sani Becirovic, scored six points and came up with three rebounds in 12 minutes for Armani Jeans Milano but they lost their Italian Lega A clash with Air Avellino, 59-55.

Milano are in fourth place at 14-8, a game behind Sigma Coatings Montegranaro and Pepsi Caserta.
