2010/11 season signings and rumours
Even today, Siska is the best SF in Europe.
This is true. However, Rudy Fernandez is very overrated and Siska is slowing down. Those transfers, if they happen, are not as strong as they look on paper.

Misko Raznatovic is the agent of Nikola Pekovic, Dusan Ikvovic, and Vassilis Spanoulis. Raznatovic told Lietuvos Rytas general manager Jonas Vainauskas that........

Once Ivkovic was signed by Olympiacos, the first transfer the club will announce will be Bill Spanoulis and the second Jonas Valanciunas (the "new Sabonis").

Also, that Raznatovic will meet with Panathinaikos tomorrow discussing the situation with both Pekovic and Spanoulis.

Looks like we will know very soon whether Ivkovic will be coaching Olympiacos and whether Pekovic and Spanoulis will be leaving PAO or not.
Obradovic stays at Pao? <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

Yes, so, if Efes will exist next season, Oktay Mahmuty will coach them.

He signed on for another two years <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Why wouldn't you want to stay with one of the best Euroleague teams of all time?

The money is there, the organization is there, the possibility to sign absolutely anyone you want (money not an issue), why would he want to leave? Plus many sports professionals (not only in basketball) when moving here, end up retiring here too <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

but it was the same situation this year as well

so..I mean,if money is not a problem and PAO is a big club(no doubt about that)then why did they fail going through to the final 8? what went wrong?

I guess a motivation (or lack of it) was a problem this season and two years ago. Though PAO won the title in 2009 after being eliminated in Top 16 in 2008 when they were reigning champions.
so maybe the problem was the age of the team? I mean..it's a pretty old team no? seen it all,won it all..

BTW I heard that Mike Batiste(34)is not going to renew his contract next season..any news about him and his next potential team?

Real Madrid made him an offer already.

seriously? so basically they're going to buy every player in Europe so they'll have a chance of winning the Euroleague

That's what I'm going with.

Although I think injuries were a serious problem this year, Saras wasn't performing as much as expected, Tsarstaris was a big loss to the team most of the year, he showed what they were missing out on in the finals with some great games. But that's the biggest problem in any sport, staying at the top, not reaching there.

And Panathinaikos is one of the biggest European clubs of all time up there with Maccabi, Real (more because of their performance is past decades obviously) and CSKA.

Well the reasonable thing happened, Zeljco renewed his contract till '12. The problem of PAO is the loss of top players. And I think it won't be easy to deal with. Let's face it Pao's problem this year was the lack of good bench players. It's a team of 4-5 and that's why they couldn't handle the injuries-issue. Every quality team , especially an old one, needs good alternatives. This year Pao had Pekovic, Diamantidis, Nicholas, Spanoulis n Batiste after January. Their back ups are at least not comparative. Tepic, Calathes, Perperoglou, Tsartsaris, Shermadini, Saras, Fotsis are far from the level Pao needs them to be. At least not any more! Pao needs 2-3 players + the possible replacements they might need -Pekovic, Spanoulis.

Bout Oly I think the coach is the 1st issue. I believe the next coach should be one of Ivkovic, Ivanovic, Pianigianni, Scariolo or Vujosevic.

My preference is Pianigianni. Penn, Halperin and Vujcic are out and I think Childress should be out too. 2 top combo guards 1 SF and 1 Center for the bench and Oly's ready. Somethin like

Teodosic, Papaloukas, Beverley

Spanoulis???, Gecevicius????

SF from the US, Vasilopoulos

Kleiza, Mavrokefalidis

Bourousis, Schortsianitis, Valanciunas/Raduljca/Petravicius/Erden/Mavroeidis/Marjanovic/Pleiss etc.........................
The question is, Oly is in need of an experienced coach. Yannakis just doesn't cut the mustard and is about the most anti-offensive 'coach' I've ever seen.

My question is how come Xavi Pascuale an ex-assistant coach commandeered Barcelona and got the Euroleague with them, where Yannakis couldn't pull off at least a heated resistance against Barca in the F4 Final?

It's really time Greek coaches start making a stand for themselves and showing more of what they've got to offer, like the job Katsikaris is doing in the Basque republic <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

The problem with that is kinda like the problem with coaching a good...center

centers need so much work when they're young to reach their full potential.

but coaches don't have time to deal with young talented players..no one would accept the excuse ''we need 2 years of loosing in order to get a great player''..coaches need to win no matter what.

and teams managements think the same way, they want to win instead of..maybe giving credit to a young talented Greek coach.

the same thing happened to Maccabi for 5 years now and I think they realized that it's the wrong way so they want Blatt and the best Israeli players.

IMHO Bartzokas is the best coach in Europe. It's extremely strange that Olympiacos just does not hire him.
True, Bartzokas has done a great job, but so far throwing a relatively Euroleague-inexperienced coach especially for the level that Oly wants and needs, so far no Greek coach has done a good enough job to run such a big team, such as Xavi Pascuale. THAT'S what I want to see.

I can't see Halprein return to Israel, due to a tax rules. Vujcic is very intersting question his future.
