2010/11 season signings and rumours

80% tax to non-Europian players????
No. All players in Greek League that make 100k euros or more per season get taxed at 80% more now with the new tax laws in Greece.

If you will notice neither PAO, nor Olympiacos has done anything all summer except PAO re-signed Diamantidis BEFORE the tax laws suddenly changed. Neither team is serious about doing anything until they know exactly what is going to happen with the taxes.

And Olympiacos isn't signing anyone because of that until they know for sure that they can get rid of Josh Childress' contract. He is scheduled to make 5.5 million euros plus the cost of 80% higher taxes. He has untilt he 15th of July to opt out of his contract and sign with an NBA team.

So obviously Olympiacos isn't doing anything until they know that Childress is gone.

Anyone that does not know about the problems with PAO and Olympiacos with the new taxes that claims to be Greek, live in Greece, and can supposedly read Greek, is definitely lying to you. There have been so many articles about the taxes in Greece. It would be literally impossible for a Greek to not know about it.

Saras, Spanoulis, Batiste, Nicholas, etc. it's all being held up by the taxes and Childress' opt out situation. Soon the Greek League will have a definitive answer on if the state is going to keep the 80% more higher from the tax or not and Childress has to opt out by the 15th. Once these two things pass then we will know rather quickly what is happening.

If you would notice ALL the Greek clubs have been totally silent this summer in transfers.

I have to explain a couple of things about the tax law here. The previous tax was 25% of the gross salary. With the new tax law, it is now 45% of the gross salary. Tax will always mean gross. Net means after taxes. Simple economics. The new law is not 80% of the gross. A player with a gross contract of 1.8mil euros will be getting about 1 mil (45%), not 360k like with an 80% taxation. What some clubs officials claimed is that if they want to pay a player 1mil euros net, they would have to pay 1.8mil gross, so an aditional 80% as tax. That however is not an 80%, as taxation is always to be counted from the gross ammount. Others claimed that the new taxation is about 80% higher than the old one (45% to 25%) which is correct. But under no circumstances is the new tax 80% of the gross, that is just absurd.

I think you are misunderstanding. There is a new 80% tax being placed on the clubs that they did not have to pay before. That is what I am talking about. An 80% tax increase.
According to ONE and Sport5 here in Israel, Hapoel are in talks with Stephon Marbury! ONE are reporting that Hapoel offered him a 400,000 dollar contract.

He's pretty washed up, though.

I've been optimistic until now but with Vougioukas to PAO and Davis turning out to be another ''Lie''..I just want to hear about a real good(not PF/C)Center with good stats when it comes to rebounds that's not just a rumor but a real name

Good thing they didn't keep Jeter too, or else they'd need about 10.

Exactly as i said. The tax increase is 80%. The tax itself is 45%. I wasn't refering to you in particular, just on the media hype and the confusion. I think i made it pretty clear with my post.

does the new tax laws in greece mean that olympiacos has to pay 4.4m to the tax authorities in addition to the 5.5m that they are paying childress?
No. For example Childress makes 4.2m net. Add to that 80% (3.3m euros), total 7.5m euros.

The new tax is 45% (From 25% it was before) on the gross contract. So 45% of 7.5m euros is 3.3m. But Greek club presidents use the percentage over net contracts, to impress media and fans more, after all 80% sells more than 45%.

Anyway, seems that Childress leaving Greece, heading to Arizona to meet Turkoglu

After Spanoulis' earthquake transfer announcement Olympiakos has agreed with 32-year old PF Matt Nielsen who played for PowerElectronics Valencia last year.He will sign a contract worth 1.8 M $ for 2 years.

Romain Sato, the 29-year old SG/F is the 3rd player who has an agreement and after 15th of July he'll be announced. He played for Montepaschi Siena with great stats.

Olympiakos needs 2 front liners and 1 guard and they'll be ready. These moves may dure more because Angelopoulos bros are willin to wait for NBAer till September.
