Group C (Ankara) - Group Stage

Barea, PR's best player.
That reminds me, I've heard some crazy s**t this tournament like referring to Barea and Kleiza as "Superstars." Really, so we're just going to throw this term around now? In my opinion only Kevin Durant and JC Navarro would classify as Superstars and everybody else is a very good player at best.

On an unrelated note, while the home team always gets the advantage in these tournaments we cannot ignore that Turkey has some really nice pieces. They are a team that is very capable of beating any team in the world irrespective of location so if we toss in the legitmate home court advantage and sprinkle on some calls that come with that luxury, coupled with the poor play from the tournament favorites, Turkey has a very good chance to make some noise in this tourney.

I disagree on Navarro being a star... for me the only super-star of the tournament is Luis Scola.

Statistically speaking Argentina is the most 1-man show of the tournament, and still unbeaten... with Scola pulling all the weight...
Respect and thanks for everything:

Alvertis, Bodiroga, Jasikevicius, Radja, Wilkins, Vrankovic, Fotsis, Rebraca, Kattash, Gentile, Koch, Middleton, Kutluay, Rogers, Papadopoulos, Becirovic, Tomasevic, Siskauskas, Pekovic, Lakovic, Vujanic, Chatzivrettas, Maljkovic, Spanoulis and many more to follow in the near future.

Puerto Rico vs Ivory Coast

Greece vs Russia

Turkey vs China

Here comes the tricky part... both Greece and Russia will actually want to lose the game to avoid Spain and USA in the next two rounds... HERE is a full analysis of all groups possible match-ups

Also their game starts at 18:30 and they will know the result of Spain-Canada...

Some of them wanting to lose more than the other one. Why am I not suprised. Well, I guess it was an fair-play and "athletic" manner to play National level basketball game and trying to lose it.

Yeah our loss against Russia today was pathetic. What a fucking fix-up. It's got more and more obvious that we're playing like we're the shadow of ourselves. First, Blatt was "embarassed for Greece's sake" who recognized that Greece quite evidently didn't play to its potential at all. Even right after the game, Tanjevic accused us of "doing the same like in Eurobasket last year". Although the Turks shouldn't be talking, because they're fixing up their own games, but this time with the unbridled assistance from the refs, with FIBA's blessing. This is not how basketball should be played <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mellow.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Mellow' />

Shame on Greece! What they did today against Russia was pathetic! No offence to the Greek fans but to me such attitude when a team loses the game on purpose is an attitude of coward. Especially when a team has such high goals. And I don't take this excuse of "being smart". If you lose on purpose to avoid some team then it means only one thing that you are afraid of it. As simple as that. Also shame on Kazlauskas. I thought he wasn't like that.

But the good side of this is that France might lose against New Zealand so this coward-ish plan might fail.

This is all about team effort, especially at an international level. Citing superstars is dumb in my opinion.

On the unrelated note however, Turkey has some very good players as units, but as a whole team they're not that capable, especially for reaching the level that they want to achieve. I watched the whole game yesterday vs. Puerto Rico and Puerto Rico was ROBBED of the game 10000000%. The favouritism from the refs wasn't just home court advantage, but blatant giving away of the game to Turkey who didn't deserve the win in the slightest, especially with bright boy Ilyasova missing the 3 in the last seconds and Puerto Rico slinged the ball from the rebound for a drained 3p shot to bring PR two points below Turkey.

Well France lost on purpose as well. So it's gonna be Greece vs. Spain match-up. The winner from this game then plays with the winner from which other game?

Granted, it wasn't the nicest of the spectacles to watch everything happened during GRE-RUS but Greece got 50% of what they were aiming for... avoiding USA until the final...

Of course they must beat giants Spain and Serbia until then... and I doubt they can beat both...

It's a little bit boring to see USA getting to semis so easy with Angola and Russia most likely. Russia at least will give a little run at the best, some toughness under the boards. While Lithuania will face either Argentina or Brazil in 1/4 and these two are tough as hell, specially Argentina.

Greece is one phenomenal team if they will get away against Spain. Spain is just sleeping, waiting for some moment I guess <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> They dominated Lithuania, just felt a sleep in 4th quarter.

PS: I'm not underestimating China, but I can't imagine better opponent for this Lithuania team. Kleiza and Mačiulis will have fun again. China is struggling with physical presence in international stage.

I was pretty shocked that Turkey destroyed China +47 points. What the hell was wrong with the Chinese? Were they out of gas? <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Blink' />
