Great game by France! I have always liked France NT... Last year in Eurobasket they had the best record with just 1 defeat but De Colo was foolish enough to score and send them on Spain in the quarter finals...
I like Lebanon's passion for basketball. All Asian teams proved today they can play some serious ball... Jordan and China that is... Respect and thanks for everything:

Gotta grab all the games that I missed <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
I'm definitely intrigued by Jordan and want to check 'em out <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Oh, and about De Colo making the shot and sending France to play with Spain? Well, the French will be eternally cursing, because win or lose a basketball game vs. US, they always get pwned in the end anyway <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Game plan for every team playing against New Zealand: "Shut down Kirk Penney."
With that said, Kirk Penney had 37 points today. This guy is terrific. I fully expect him to be one of the main beneficiaries of a nice contract following this tournament.

We had one decent quarter against New Zealand and then we got into slow basketball because of which they managed to come closer. Kemzura's quote that the players did well in stopping Penney sounded crazy. They let him score 37 points! How is that a good defence?
So far to me GeceviÄius is the biggest disappointment in the NT. It seems he doesn't fit into quick basketball that we are playing. He's too slow in defence against quick guards and can't rid of his guard often. We can't expect Kleiza to score 27 points every game. After watching the first quarter of Spain vs. France I was sure that it will be a one sided game but it turned to be completely opposite. Is there some kind of opening game syndrome for Spain? Does losing the last friendly game has some negative effect (last year they lost against Lithuania just before Eurobasket)? Have they lost on purpose because they are confident they would go to the final? Is this French team really that good? This result gives more chances for other teams in the group only if they manage to take a win against either Spain of France.

The baskets Kleiza couldn't score on Oly's behalf under dumb-ass Yannakis's reign will be made up by the WC now <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rofl3.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

[/quote] I agree, but I also think that Maciulis has been an even bigger let down. This is really his team to take control of, it's his tournament to shine and if he doesn't step up his game Lithuania is in trouble. The great thing about the Lithuanian teams of the past is that they were very well balanced and could beat you in a variety of ways and always had great ball movement. This current team is one dimensional, their success is too dependent on Linas Kleiza, their ball movement is sloppy and their defense is often non-existent. I think that it was a mistake to cut Lukauskis. He's a no-frills player who is never going to take command of a game but he is an solid defender that can change the flow with his defensive intensity. Right now Lithuania isn't guarding anybody and having a chap like Lukauskis as your 12th man gives you that option to pull him in if needed. Right now it is needed...

Personally I didn't expect much from MaÄiulis. He never was a great player at club level. Yes. he can have some decent games from time to time but nothing more.
I wouldn't have included Lukauskis in NT already two years ago. All he can do is hit some shots once in 5 or 10 games. Besides he's getting old and since he's a guard there is no room for him in this team.

Quote:Lithuania squeezes past Canada http://www.talkbasket.net/news/lithuania...-3633.html The only positive thing about this game is that the team showed that they are not going to give up even when they play terribly.

Huge win for Lithuania! 23-9 in the fourth quarter against one of the best teams in the world is a fantastic accomplishment. I personally thought that Lithuania was going to find itself in a talent gap for a few years until the next wave of youngsters develop, this win is massive.
Vilius, today Maciulis gave us exactly what I expect out of him. Hopefully he can keep it up! If he can play this well against Spain there's no reason he can't do the same in against teams like Canada! The August 31 Jonas Maciulis is necessary for Lithuania's success going forward well beyond this tournament. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
