Lithuania NT 2011
#41
Delininkaitis is better option at PG than Gecevičius in national team because Delininkaitis gives what we need from him. He is very strong individually shooter and that helped really a lot during WC. Gecevičius should be used as SG.

Can we identify who is definitely out?

Kleiza is out due to injury.

Ilgauskas said in an interview recently that he will not play.

Is there confirmation that Siskauskas and Jasikevicius will not play?

A few months ago Songaila was talking about coming out of international retirement to play in Eurobasket 2011. Any news on that?

What is the status of other players at this point?

Who said Delininkaitis or Gecevičius would be even used at PG? Kalnietis is obviously 25-30 minutes point guard for Lithuania already. And he fits to Kemzura's style perfectly. Jasikevičius would fillthe rest. That's the best scenario.

Kleiza is not officially out. but everyone understands that he needs miracle to participate in Eurobasket.

In the last interview Kemzura said he couldn't reach Ilgauskas on the phone, but he will just for a chat. They know each other very well (both played for Kaunas Atletas). Anyway, Ilgauskas is out <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/agree.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Agree' />

Siskauskas is out for good.

Jasikevicius, Kaukenas, Songaila - all might be in the team. First two actually I think will play, as for Songaila I would think Kemzura might decide not even to invite him (he still thinking about it). So that's the situation with old crew star players.

Other problematic players: K. Lavrinovic, M. Petravicius.

I'm starting to think Valanciunas might very well have shot already this year as a backup center for Javtokas. If Petravicius is out, he's already the best pure center after Javtokas. Unless Kemzura will decide to use Lavrinovic brothers in this position what could be also a solution.

Maciulis out for 6 months, including Eurobasket.

Same will probably go for Pocius, considering he has spent so many days in the hospital and a spine injury is very dangerous to return to trainings so soon...
Respect and thanks for everything:

Alvertis, Bodiroga, Jasikevicius, Radja, Wilkins, Vrankovic, Fotsis, Rebraca, Kattash, Gentile, Koch, Middleton, Kutluay, Rogers, Papadopoulos, Becirovic, Tomasevic, Siskauskas, Pekovic, Lakovic, Vujanic, Chatzivrettas, Maljkovic, Spanoulis and many more to follow in the near future.

With all these injuries occuring it probably means that Renaldas Seibutis will be called up. He's having a great season in Turkey (even though his team isn't good). That also means that Jasaitis will be on the squad for sure.

The NT will probably be composed of these players:

Robertas Javtokas

Ksistof Lavrinovic

Simas Jasaitis

Rimantas Kaukenas

Sarunas Jasikevicius (doubtful)

Darjus Lavrnovic

Paulius Jankunas

Martynas Pocius

Mantas Kalnietis

Martynas Gecevicius

Tomas Delininkaitis

Renaldas Seibutis

And two of these players:

Darius Songaila

Donatas Motiejunas

Jonas Valanciunas

Marijonas Petravicius

Can Saras even provide a few quality minutes any more?

You mean Seibutis will be in final roster? I think he will. Probably he's confident as never as he the leader of his team and showing great numbers. Also, he and Pocius (if healthy) probably would get some minutes at 3. Vilius, I would include M. Kuzminskas to the camp.

He had 19 points game recently in TBL playoffs <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> He also made 10 assists against Barsa with Rytas. It will depend on his preparation. Basically I think he still could have a good tournament if he will have motivation and will give 100% for that.

What I don't want to see in national team for sure this year is Darjuš Lavrinovič... <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Dry' />

Being quite OT now, I know, but how come Sabonis's son never had a chance on the NT? Was it just a matter of him not being good enough, and his father not being able to pull enough strings? <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

Quite surprising when you're the son of the miracle of nature <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/crazy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Crazy' />

I think it's because he sucks.

That was my guess, but I mean, hey, when you're Sabonis's son, you'd AT LEAST be a mediocre player? <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Blink' />

Although apparently the old man is proud of him in any case and watches him play in games in Spain, going back and forth from Lithuania.

If the roster injuries become anymore dire they may have to suit up Sabas himself! This situation does not look good. Lietuva is in too strong of a group to have so many problems. Last I heard Turkey(Maybe) and Spain will be at full strength. GB with Deng n Gordon could cause some problems for anyone.

Groups are a joke in Eurobaskets, 4/6 teams make it to next round... so Lithuania will get there, especially with so many extra shitty basketball countries that FIBA Europe shoved up our throats. Things will get tougher at knock-out rounds...

Only 3 teams from each group qualify to the next round. Unless you mean second round.

Lithuania is fighting for the first spot in the group with Spain even without Kleiza. I'm pretty sure.

Yes, I think Seibutis will make the final cut. As you said, hopefully his confidence that he built this season with his club will be used on the national team as well.

What do you think about Kemzura's list of candidates? I wasn't surprised with any player with the exception of Jomantas. I mean, really? He was terrible this season. But even if he wasn't then he isn't NT material wnd will never be. Besides he is zero in offense. Of course just because he's invited to the training camp doesn't mean he'll make the final squad.

Simply we just don't have very much SF players so Kemzūra will try all options. But I'm still sure he should have taken Katelynas here. He can play not only PF but as SF too and he would be very useful against strong small forwards such as Luol Deng or to play against Turkoglu/Ilyasova.

So I read today that Saras wants to finish his career playing in the 2011 Eurobasket tournament? Is there any confirmation that he will be indeed be invited to the NT?

You read it probably from an article that was posted on lrytas.lt and possibly some if it used on Greek media. The article was about the return of Saras to NT and his role, influence etc. And it included his quote which was made a couple of years ago that his dream is to retire when playing for NT and do it in front of the home fans. So it's not a recent quote.

However, when he joined Rytas this season he was asked whether he'll play next season and he wasn't sure. He didn't rule out either possibility.

Yes, he will be on NT (see this article http://www.talkbasket.net/5741-kemzura-p...uania.html ) and is supposed to be the back up point guard. There were only two point guards invited to the training camp - Kalnietis and Saras.

Right, so it seems that Saras's wish has been fulfilled, but still isn't it a bit risky having only two PG's on the team? I guess a combo guard will be used as a go-between?
