Greece NT 2011
Haralambidis? I would have preferred Papas <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

Charalambides was called instead... pure scorer, kinda sucks in defense.

If Calathes doesn't make it, then Zisis and Sloukas will be called to share 40 minutes and somehow I'm not convinced they will cut it.

I hope they include Pat Calathes in the final squad, cause something tells me that if he is not, then Nick's injury won't "get healed on time"...

[/quote]

Most likely for Nik is to make the final cut! <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

That's what he said anyway.

Mr. Vasilakopoulos, by the time that Mavrokefalidis suspended for two months Sofo must be suspended for many more months.

Well at least Sofo didn't pull a diva stunt like Mavrokefalidis did. Mavro just said he couldn't come to the NT quite bluntly, and that's why he was punished. Sofo had personal reasons from the beginning that he explained about. He's not a machine that just plays basketball, he is human too. Anyway it's a chance for Mavroidis and Koufos to show what they are made of in the paint. We have to give chances to a lot of new guys to progress further.

Mavrokefalides had same problem too (sick mother)... so Sofo will get the same punishment.

Anyway, team is in Cyprus now and will have its first three friendly games... we'll see how it goes.

Greece surprisingly look good in the friendlies. I mean probably better than people expected. Changes might work our pretty well for Greece, on other hand friendlies always are friendlies and hardcore games will start only in Lithuania.
Reply
Young and inexperienced doesn't necessarily mean bad... this team will surely have less talent, but by far more fighting spirit and teamwork.

If someone underestimates them, they will pay for it. And don't make a mistake to have a close game vs Greece entering the last minutes of the game, cause you're gonna lose 99%

Fotsis will need to step up and be the leader with double double in every game. Top6 and Olympics spot would be awesome.

Only those teams which will reach the final get direct spot for Olympics. Being among top6 means a chance in qualification. Greece can grab it.

Yeah, but in the Olympic qualifying tournament, team will have many members back and I'm not afraid of competition like Puerto Rico, Lebanon etc...

True, remember when Serbia's current team just started out, pretty much fresh faces all around. From the last world championship they were robbed from a silver medal. That kind of geometric success rate is outlandish, but then again Serbia has a strong tradition in basketball, and Greece has proved it does too. We may see similar things for Greece progressing in tbe future <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Biggrin' />

That should be our slogan <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rofl3.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rofl3' />

Somehow unfortunately it doesn't seem clear to me that Pat Kalathis will make the cut. From the games I've watched so far he hasn't played a great deal, and his experience amongst our other big men is less. He does have the excuse that he was called in late, but Zouros doesn't seem to be giving him much playing time.

I saw his name written before as 'Mavridis', now 'Mavraidis'? Sounds strange.

Anyway, he'll soon enough learn that basketball isn't 1 vs. 5. He seems to have a similar style with Spanoulis always going for the drive. Time will tell. From what I made out he has a plus that he is built pretty solid, perhaps almost a white Will Bynum?? <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/crazy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Crazy' /> <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rofl3.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rofl3' />

Look at Bramos however, he came to Peristeri and wasn't noticed until he was playing in Gran Canaria. Aris is GREAT in finding diamonds in the rough, PAOK makes those diamonds <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' /> <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Cool' />

He is not only going for the drive. Didn't you noticed how many 3-pointers took with a hand in his face?!?!

By the way, he gave an interview in ARIS fm and he said that despite his offensive talent, his best skill is defense. Also, taking in acount his rebound averages, you can say that he is more like Diamantidis than Spanoulis. I mean he's more complete player with more dimensions on his game!

Hopefully, he'll become Greece's future superstar!! <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Heh heh, well let's see how he goes. It's totally different playing against men than kiddies <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/baby.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Baby' /> <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

Hopefully he does well together with Sloukas. Then he may have a chance for the NT <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

^ That was a shame, but he didn't make good use of the time he was given in the games. At least he'll probably have a chance again now that he's on PAO's roster.

This is hard decision for Zouros. Spanoulis and Schortsanitis are too good to decline...
