Mavrokefalides declined invitation, for the 2nd summer in a row.

Very poor form from Mavrokefalidis's side, but at the end of the day, he'll just be gone from the NT for good, and now is the chance for Koufos to step up and show what he's really made of, instead of just playing it like a diva like years before <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />

I really dont understand guys like Sofo or Lorbek earlier and others that don't want to play in their NT.. playing for the NT should be an honor, you should thank for the option to be part of the NT and not try to avoid it.. To me it seems like the last pure thing in basketball, playing for your country, they should be thankful for the option, not try to run away from it.. Or is it just me being too naive?

Xanthopoulos was called in instead of Calathes.
Also Perperoglou could miss the tournament...

If it's serious.. with all the absentees it might be one of the weakest Greek NT I've seen in a very long time.

Well it's time for new guys to step up anyway. Things like that will be more and more of an issue for players of Spanoulis's age. We'll have to go to the Eurobasket just for the best result possible. In the 2005 Eurobasket nobody expected the Hellas NT to win gold, and with the somewhat shaky results the team was getting, it didn't look like they were going for gold, but they got it in the end. Not that I'm saying we could achieve this again this time round <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' /> (I wouldn't mind if it happened again tho <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' /> )

Things are very difficult for us now.
Let's hope Calathes will be able to participate.

Fak, oh well, we'll just have to hope to have a dignified presence this year and be pleased if we finish in the top 8 or so.

Charalambides was called instead... pure scorer, kinda sucks in defense.
If Calathes doesn't make it, then Zisis and Sloukas will be called to share 40 minutes and somehow I'm not convinced they will cut it.
I hope they include Pat Calathes in the final squad, cause something tells me that if he is not, then Nick's injury won't "get healed on time"...
