Quote:Slovenian National Team has got a new coach. None other than Bozidar Maljkovic.
The decision to hire Majkovic was taken during the last session of Slovenian Basketball Federation for 2010. Maljkovic will sign a three years deal, with a possibility of early contract termination.
Maljkovic signing has caused some surprise as despite his great coaching career the Serbian has not coached a team for a while. The surprise is even bigger if one takes into consideration that he has not been the head coach of any National Team so far in his career. Nevertheless he has won numerous titles on club level, even winning Euroleague with three clubs.
His last job was in 2007 when to he took over Tau (now Caja Laboral) from Velimir Perasovic who had medical problems.

Can Slovenia win something finally? Probably not (again). They always have players to choose, but always lacking something. More over, Eurobasket 2011 will filled with quality and the rosters will be fat.

I'm excited for Slovenia! I always root for Slovenia and Serbia national teams. Eurobasket is by far the most entertaining and competitive competition. This year might be the best ever.

He's still very good. Still would be one of key players for Slovenia and his influence for the team could be the same as Turkcan's for Fener.

Quote:Matjaz Smodis is diagnosed with heart problems
Our teamâs forward Matjaz Smodis is out because of recently diagnosed heart problems. The player is advised to take full rest for a week, then he will undergo detailed examination which will allow to talk about the perspectives of his return on the floor.
Thus one more team leader is added to CSKA injured list â army men hospital still hosts Alexander Kaun (back), Victor Khryapa (ankle) and JR Holden (leg).

I hope Smodis will be cleared to play basketball again and I wish him the best. This will probably mean that he won't play for the NT.

Matjaz Smodis is back to practices
On the 2 March 2011 Matjaz Smodis took part in his first practice after 10-day break needed to study the heart problems.
After the tests in GMS Clinic CSKA received two independent conclusions - from Myasnikov Cardiology Institute in Moscow and well-known clinic from Serbia. The doctors found no extrasistals in heart functioning and pulled off any contraindications for sports activities.
that's very good news for CSKA, Smodis and Slovenia. Hopefully he can stay healthy so that he can play for the NT this summer and help them

Basketball Federation of Slovenia announced that they will host six training camps for players born between 1988 and 1993 in order to help Bozidar Maljkovic find at least two young players that will be included in 14-men roster for EuroBasket 2011.

I think it's good MaljkoviÄ idea - 13,14 players is not very important, so need give experience for young players. I hope, that to Lithuania goes Dino MuriÄ and Zoran DragiÄ maybe..

Zoran Dragic will definitely go to Lithuania, but not as a 13th or 14th player. Maljkovic's style is very defensive and Zoran is one of the best defensive players, so I'm sure he will have a big role in our team. When the roster for the training camps will be announced, I will publish it here. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />

Udrih didn't want to be a backup for LakoviÄ on WC in Turkey, so he left the team. This year he got the invitation from Maljkovic, but Beno is getting married in summer, so he will not be able to participate in Lithuania.
I don't know where to start the story about Vujacic - but the most important think is that he is not interested in playing for Slovenia. He wanted to be a leader and did not want to adjust to the role of team player (giant ego), so there were some arguments with our basketball federation.

Slovenia is not exactly the case of such teams as USA, Spain, Lithuania, Greece, Argentina when one could say that if they coming with full package, they are contenders. I don't know why...They could easily win some medals in 2007 and 2009 Eurobaskets...
