Dajaun Wagner/The Life: Cats Who Didn't Make It
#1
Back in the day, ESPN had this show called the Life and one of the eps featured my dude Dajuan Wagner. Showed him hanging out in Camden, working out for the Cavs and talking about the infamous 100 point game in high school. I FINALLY came across the videos and posted them on my blog and wanted to share cause it's some great insight to one of my fav high school players of all time. I feel sorry for a lot of these athletes who coming outta high school and are suppose to be the next "one" and for whatever reason they don't make it. Watching these clips it's hard not to feel for Wagner...who are some of ya'll athletes that were suppose to be the next one but it just didn't pan out that way?

I remember reading all the hype about Wagner in SLAM magazine years ago, what was the precise reason why he couldn't continue in the NBA? He simply wasn't strong enough physically to endure a regular season of 82 games?

Sebastian Telfair is still in the NBA but he was supposed to be a superstar and never came close. Kwame Brown and Micahel Olowokandi failed miserably as number one picks. I thought Adam Morrison was going to be a star. Aju Aju Deng was going to be great when he joined UCONN and Omar Cook should have never left St. John's after his freshman season. Gerald Green is another one who comes to mind. Qyntel Woods was projected to be a number 2 draft pick for a while. Chris Taft was a beast for a couple of years at Pitt and didn't even last a season in the NBA, I don't believe. Rafeal Araujo was destined to be terrible but that didn't stop the Raptors from using a lottery pick on him. Ryan Humphrey was the best high school player in the country when he joined Notre Dame, now he's in the LEB. As a Bucks fan, I have to bring up our wonderful draft picks Joe Alexander and Yi Jianlian.

Saving the best for last, Eddie Griffin. He was the best high school player in the nation and a standout at Seton Hall. He went to the Rockets to the T'Wolves and became a raging alcholoic including one night when he was drunkenly pleasing himself to porn on the dashboard when he destroyed a parked car! Rofl3

Too bad his alcoholism and drunk driving would eventually lead to his death when he was hit by a train after running the barrier. He had all the talent in the world but couldn't get his act together.

^ Holy hell, that's what happened to Griffin? Blink

And yeah I remember seeing Olowokandi play live in Thessaloniki when he played for (Kinder Bologna?) during the NBA lockout period against PAOK, everybody was watching him play, saying who was this 'cucumber' who couldn't play for sh*t? Rofl3

And what about the original baby Jordan?

^^Olowokandi was such a joke! He was tall but thats it. He had almost no basketball skill.^^

Harold Miner AKA "Baby Jordan"! I got this from Wikipedia: "As of 2010, Miner had settled near Las Vegas, Nevada and was reportedly an active real estate investor. He was married and had a daughter, and son. Since his retirement from basketball, he had been disinclined to give interviews or make public appearances, instead remaining private and largely inaccessible. In 2010, however, he agreed to an interview in which he indicated a desire begin reconnecting with the University of Southern California and with some of his acquaintances from playing days."

I also remember watching a news show some years ago that Harold Miner was becoming a police officer some where in California. There was also video footage of him playing basketball in his yard with some neighborhood children. From NBA player to Police officer to real estate investor. What a life. I wonder if hes's coaching basketball somewhere. I's hard to let the game go once its in you.
