Here is a recent article from FIBA.com

Quote: GER - Nowitzki: I want to get Germany into Olympics

DALLAS (EuroBasket 2011/2012 London Olympics) - Dirk Nowitzki has given his strongest hint yet that he will suit up for Germany at this summer's EuroBasket in Lithuania in a bid to qualify the team outright for next year's Olympic Games in London.

Nowitzki, who has not represented his country since the 2008 Olympics, told German daily newspaper Bild: "I would like to help Germany qualify for the Olympics once again.

"If I finish the NBA season without any injuries, it's more likely that I will be in Lithuania than not be there."

Germany qualified for the Beijing Games by virtue of finishing second in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

If Nowitzki decides to play for Germany, that will increase the chances of big man Chris Kaman also making himself available.

The Los Angeles Clippers centre last month hinted at wanting to play for the national team again, but on the condition that Nowitzki is in the fold.

Nowitzki, 32, averaged 23.0 points and shot a career best 51.7 percent from the field during the 2010-11 NBA season, leading the Dallas Mavericks to a 57-25 record, third best in the Western Conference.

Dallas take on the Portland Trailblazers in the first round of the playoffs, starting on Saturday.

I agree Dirk is a trooper! I wish him success. Remember when Germany beat Serbia? Germany and Serbia are in the same group. On Dirks behalf I'm hoping for upsets.

Oh and Chris Kaman?? WTF? He's from Michigan. I forget he's on this team weird....

From which angle? Not so many of Serbian national team players look to do well this season.

Has anyone seen Dirk play in this years playoffs! He is playing the best basketball in the NBA playoffs!!

I agree, he is really amazing! If he manage to mantain this level of playing, Germany will have a big chance of winning a medal.

I doubt that Germany has a quality to win a medal. Even if Dirk is playing the best basketball of his live.

Scola was playing the best basketball in his life in World Championship but that didn't help (enjoy to remember that <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />))

Do not insult Nowitzki by comparing Scola with him. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Germany won the silver at Eurobasket 2005, as long as Dirk plays they will be in the hunt.

Germany won silver in Eurobasket 2005 which was star-packed...

Now almost every team will have some starts missing, so why not?

I'm not comparing him, I see it as example that even the most dominant player of the tournament can't do everything by himself. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Biggrin' />

Dirk can. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Biggrin' /> He proved it in Serbia. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Cool' />

I think Tepic shouldn't be on the Serbian NT, when he is on the court, he just makes the opponent look good and nothing else. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

With Kris Kaman as a true center at the 5 and Dirk at the 4 I'm thinking Germany could win some games. It's simple, you can not leave Dirk open. He demands a soft double team. Do the math 1 Dirk = 1.5 to 2.5 defenders. The problem is he's an excellent passer. If Dirk plays the way he's playing right now and the other Germans elevate their game why couldn't they finish in the top 5? Good point with Luis Scola BUT he's no Dirk.
