USA NT 2012

Davis ain't ready yet. In order to play in FIBA basketball he needs to put on some weight and being able to shoot and create his shot. He's already a great defender and good passer but he needs more.

If it were any other national team, I would agree with everything that you said. Your comment above is why Davis has a role on this team. I fully agree that he won't get the same opportunity to get to the rim against a legitimate competitor and that is fine. So long as he keeps making his runs the defense needs to take him seriously and if they lay off, he'll make them pay with an alley oop.

The moment, that the US is depending on Davis for offense is the moment that they are in real trouble. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want Davis to play 30 minutes against a team like Spain but I definitely think that he can give you a solid 7-10 minutes off the bench to help take some of the pressure off of Chandler.

You mean in a game against Spain?

Only if the result is decided, in my opinion.

Not a bad day at the office. Olympic Record for points and three pointers, tied Team USA record in assists and Carmelo set the team record formerly held by Stephon Marbury (which was in dire need of being broken).

Team USA got the win against Lithuania but they really had to fight for it. At one moment I thought that they were going to lose. But then Lebron stepped up, he really is the leader of the team. Kobe, Melo, Paul also played great. But everybody will have to be ready when one of the guys has a bad day and then they have to step in

This match was an example that team USA will have to play hard every day, they can't afford to not play hard and fight for every victory. The game against Argentina will also be a close one in my opinion. I think the USA will win but it won't be easy.

Totally agree but I think that the game against Argentina could be a bit wider victory than you think for two reasons: 1) the US is going to be out to prove themselves after the narrow victory over Lithuania and 2) Argentina already played the US closely in Barcelona. Argentina is going to need to be on their A game to have a chance due to the set of circumstances that they face going into this game but if there is any team in this tournament capable of overcoming the odds it is Argentina.

Skangles you were right with your post on the USA-Argentina game.

It was an interesting game, after the the second quarter I thought that the USA would have a lot difficulties with Argentina. But then the USA's shots started to fall and Argentina's didn't. Luis Scola didn't play well, Manu played good and Nocioni played well but he'll have to do his work on defense.

That young point guard of Argentina, Campazzo shoudn't have given that cheap shot at Melo. Delfino needs to attack the basket more instead of settling for this three-point shot that isn't falling. Melo,James and Durant were great. They are playing well these Olympics. Love is also playing good, he's doing well on defense and gives you a scorer of the bench. Westbrook is taking bad shots, he needs to were he's best at and that is attacking the basket. Too bad that Harden didn't play much
Reply
If Argentina and the US both win, look for Campazzo to get pounded into the court if he tries to drive against the US. They didn't retaliate because the game was insignificant but if they meet in the semis the US will take out Campazzo and rightfully so.
Reply
The USA will definitely retaliate on Campazzo. They will play more fysical against Argentina if both teams win.

But if Argentina wins him game against Brazil, I think that Prigioni will play against the USA because of his experience and also to protect Campazzo

So who do we think will come back to Team USA for the 2014 World Cup in Spain and 2016 Olympics in Rio? Colangelo has continued to stress the need for continuity.

This is my guess:

Likely to Return:

1) Kevin Love

2) Russell Westbrook

3) James Harden

4) Anthony Davis

Could Return:

1) Kevin Durant

2) Andre Iguodala

Unlikely to Return (at least before the 2016 Olympics)

1) LeBron James

2) Carmelo Anthony

3) Chris Paul

4) Deron Williams

5) Tyson Chandler

Almost Certainly Done:

1) Kobe Bryant

Almost Certain to be Considered:

1) Blake Griffin

2) Kyrie Irving

3) DeMarcus Cousins

4) LaMarcus Aldridge

Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love, Anthony Davis and the Oklahoma City trio would be a fun nucleus to build the next generation around.

I think James will definitely be in the 2014 team and I also think he'll be in the 2016 team (his last).

There is one sure thing about the 2016 team. Durant and Rose will be their leaders.

I got a feeling that the 2016 Olympic team of USA, will be my favorite ever!

Rose

Durant

Love

Griffin

Irving

etc

Durant has mentioned that he'd like to play in Rio 2016. Hopefully he'll want to play in Spain 2014 too.
Reply
I think that Durant,Lebron, Westbrook, Harden and Davis will return.

I also think that Irving, Griffin, Cousins, Aldridge, Gay and Josh Smith could definitely be options for the team
Reply
Rumors are that LeBron is uncertain whether he'll continue to play for Team USA.
Reply
Popovich and Doc Rivers are the front runners to be the next coach of Team USA. Jim Boeheim has announced that he will not return as an assistant coach and Rick Pitino has expressed interest in the job. To me, you offer Popovich whatever he wants to take the job. The gap between him and the field is immense.
