BBL Season 07/08
#4
While Cologne was saved from going down to second division by a group of inverstors in virtually the last second, questions are being asked regarding the league's behaviour in this case. The league had already officially announced that the club has to quit the running season, but Cologne suddenly released a press statement which said that the club would play the evening's ULEB-Cup game against Khimky and hold a press conference the following morning. League boss Jan Pommer officially stated that he didn't know what was going on. It was chaotic. However, Cologne is saved and will play the season to an end. They already stated that they will sign two star players before the transfer deadline (28th of February), after losing Aleksandar Nadjfeji and Imanuell McElroy to ALBA Berlin and Toby Bailey to Spain. Rumour has McElroy coming back, but nothing official yet.

With Demond Greene going down with a long term injury, Bamberg signed off guard Dwayne Mitchell out of the NBDL. He had a horrible debut against Frankfurt last weekend (0/8 FG).

Eddie Basden meanwhile had a statistically mediocre, yet quite promising debut for Bonn in a win over Paderborn.

Artland Dragons look like they are the team to beat this year after not only taking over the league's first place after ALBA's home loss to Leverkusen, but also progressing to the ULEB-Cup's second group stage after a surprising victory over Triumph Lyubertsy. Key to the Dragon's success seems to be, apart from great team work and excellent coaching by Fleming, the one-five-axis of John Goldsberry and Adam Chubb. The former won't put up big numbers, but delivers extremely solid play at the point, while the former has been playing excellent and productive ball this year. He had 30 points in the second 1/16 final tie.
