Draw
#1
The draw will be held on April 26. But the pots have already been revealed.

Pot 1: USA, Argentina

Pot 2: Spain, Lithuania

Pot 3: Australia, China

Pot 4: Angola, Russia

Pot 5: Iran, Qualifier 1

Pot 6: Qualifier 2, Qualifier 3

There could be some very hard groups since teams that will qualify through the additional qualification tournamanent will be seeded in 5th and 6th pots.

What teams would you like get in your group?

It's funny cause among those teams in the Qualifier will be Germany and Brazil and they are ranked lower than Iran!!!!

For Argentina, something tells me that it is going to be Spain again in our group. Maybe China and Angola plus two of the qualifying team.

Obviously, any group would be tough - it's the Olympics. But all I can say is that I can't wait until it all begins and we have our best players on the court and playing for Lithuania.

We tend to start Olympics with a weak first game and we get Argentina on that day.

We'll probably miss 2 of our stars - Macijauskas and Ilgauskas.

As for USA, here's your last year FIBA Americas squad:

Chauncey Billups

Jason Kidd

Lebron James

Deron Williams

Michael Redd

Tayshaun Prince

Kobe Bryant

Dwight Howard

Amare Stoudemire

Micke Miller

Tyson Chandler

Carmelo Anthony

And as we saw in the past big name in NBA doesn't mean that much in international competitions (Tim Duncan, Allen Iverson, Gary Payton, Vince Carter etc.). Who would you choose for USA if you were the coach?

Provided they actually play, I'd take:

Chauncey Billups

Lebron James

Carmelo Anthony

Ray Allen

Kevin Garnett

Kobe Bryant

Baron Davis

Chris Paul

A healthy Dwayne Wade

Shaquille O'neal

Gilbert Arenas

Then either Dwight howard or Bruce Bowen, toss-up.

Quote:ANG – Gomes: `Angola not just making up the numbers’

LUANDA (Olympic Games) – Angola’s Joaquim Gomes firmly believes that his national team is better than the one that played in Japan two years ago and warned their future Olympic opponents not to underestimate the African nation.

On Saturday, Angola were drawn in Group B of the Beijing Games along with the United States, Spain and hosts China.

The 27-year-old said to FIBA.com: “Most teams already know our potential and we will step onto the court to compete, whatever the team will be. We are eager to do better than we did at the last World Championship.”

Ninth placed two years ago in Japan, the nine-time African champions will return to Asia in the summer with a clear aim.

“We are not going to Beijing to make up the numbers,” Gomes said. “This theory does not exist in our minds anymore.”

Despite the power forward’s conviction, Gomes, also known as “Kikas Gomes” in Angola circles, acknowledges it will not be an easy task:

“It will be extremely difficult for us,” he said.

“Spain and the US are, in my opinion, candidates to win this competition. China, as hosts, will cause trouble to any team because they will try to bring pleasure to their fans, there.”

With appearances at the Athens Games and FIBA World Championship in Japan, Gomes is one of most experienced members of the Angola team, which claimed the ninth African title last summer in Angolan capital, Luanda.

His experience in previous events may be crucial for the youngsters who are being incorporated into the squad:

“Olympic Games are a very enjoyable competition, but my experience says that it is also the most difficult event,” Gomes said.

Joaquim Gomes was Most Valuable Player of the 2007 FIBA Africa Championship.

He led Angola in Japan with an average of 15 points and eight rebounds per contest.
