Hey man, welcome to the forum.

Lakers 3-1 Spurs
I'm gonna have to take the lakers.
I thought the Spurs would give the Lakers more to fight for, that was nearly a walk in the park. I can see the Lakers taking the ring... Gasol was the best addition in the NBA in recent years.

Lakers win. Boston sports = choke at championships.

You saw the Patriots. You saw Boston College ( NCAA) lose first week ranked #2, you saw the Bruins get knocked. You saw it all.

Boston = choke.

Paul Pierce scored 27 points, Ray Allen had 17 and Kevin Garnett added 16 to lift the Boston Celtics to an 89-81 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Friday night in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals… After playing two Game 7s, the Celtics will get a needed break before hosting Kobe Bryant and the Lakers on Thursday night… The Pistons blew a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter and lost in Game 6 of the conference finals for the third straight year. They were eliminated on their home court for the first time during a six-year run that included a trip to the conference finals each year and the 2004 title… Chauncey Billups played well and Richard Hamilton scored 21, but the rest of their teammates had lackluster efforts—especially Rasheed Wallace… Wallace scored just four points on 2-of-12 shooting and had three turnovers in what might’ve been his last game as a Piston and could’ve been Flip Saunders’ last as Detroit’s coach. President of basketball operations Joe Dumars will likely make some sort of moves on the bench, the court or both.

Ticker reports: The Celtics, who avoided a third straight Game Seven this postseason, outscored the Pistons 29-13 in the final period to secure the victory. Boston used a powerful 23-6 run to seal the win… After Jason Maxiell gave Detroit a 74-72 edge with a fadeaway jumper, Pierce sliced through the lane and completed a three-point play to give the Celtics the lead for good with 5:25 remaining… Billups scored 29 points for Detroit, which lost in the Eastern Conference finals for the third straight season. The defeat already has raised questions about the job security of coach Flip Saunders. Stat Notes: The Celtics shot 44.4%, the Pistons 42.0%. Both teams were awful from three-point range. The Celtics hit 20-of-27 free throws, the Pistons 17-of-21. Rebounding was close. The Pistons had 19 assists, the Celtics just 14.

For the Celtics, Pierce (8-of-12, 10-of-13 free throws) had 27 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Ray Allen (6-of-12, 3-of-8 threes) was alive with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Kevin Garnett (just 7-of-16 with a mere 4 free throw attempts) had 16 points and just 6 rebounds with 4 assists. Kendrick Perkins had 7 points and 7 rebounds. Rajon Rondo needed 13 shots for his 11 points and 4 rebounds. James Posey had 4 rebounds and two steals.

For the Pistons, Billups (9-of-20) had 29 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Richard Hamilton (9-of-14) had 21 points and 2 blocks. But then, a severe dropoff: Tayshaun Prince (3-of-10) had 10 points and 4 rebounds. Jason Maxiell (3-of-4) had 7 with 2 steals off the bench. Antonio McDyess (2-of-3) had just 6 points and 6 rebounds. Rasheed Wallace (awful 2-of-12) had 4 points and 10 rebounds. Rodney Stuckey (just 1-of-4) scored 4.

89-81 Celtics win the series 4-2.

An hour and ten minutes until Live coverage starts over here in the UK. I can't wait, even if it is only the first game. <img src='<#EMO_DIR#>/crazy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Crazy' />
It's just 10 minutes till tip-off here.

But I'm not watching it.
It was a good first game. Bryant had a terrible game, I expected him to go for it in the second half but he didn't show up. Kevin Garnett was amazing, nearly every shot he took went in, and was also key in the defensive area keeping the Lakers to a double-figure score. In the first-half I didn't make much of Paul Pierce and then he got injured to make it worse. Fair play to him, coming back and getting two three point shots in a row, and then the one where he got four. A great second half for him.

I thought Gasol started well, but he kept getting called wrongly for fouls etc, you could sort of see the frustration. He seems to be a solid shooter and a great passer - In the next game I think he could be a lot better once the nerves are out of his system. There was no one else that really stood out; Well Ray Allen was alright but nothing special. The bench for Boston was very good, with Cassell doing a great job on the board.

I definitely think it will be a good game next time around, with a few players knowing that they have to step it up in order to break this Celtics team down - While Boston need to keep at it, shutting out Kobe and keeping him quiet and getting as many points as possible.
Another very entertaining game. Boston started amazingly, and nearly threw the game away at the last. The last quater was amazing, Celtics an amazing 24 points up and Lakers get it back to 2 eventually! Then they missed their chance to steal the ball last time round to stay in it and gave away a foul instead. Pierce was on some good form again but the man of the match had to be Powe surprisingly. He grabbed 21 points in 14 minutes. In fact Garnett and Ray Allen also had great games, racking up 17 points each. Ahh was just a great game all round. Hopefully in Hollywood they can be as good! <img src='<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

Celtics 108-102 Lakers

Celtics 2-0 Lakers.

Roll on game 3!
I thought someone would've posted about it already...

Quote:The Boston Celtics secured their 17th NBA championship with a 131-92 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.

Kevin Garnett scored 26 points and secured 14 rebounds in the game at TD Banknorth Garden in Boston last night.

The convincing victory meant the east coast team beat their west coast rivals 4-2 in the best-of-seven series.

The score fell just short of the largest margin of victory ever in the finals in which Phil Jackson's Chicago Bulls routed the Utah Jazz by 42 points in 1998.

Well, they just played amazing. No doubt about that. The Lakers had nothing in them, didn't try, contest for anything. It was just a series of lack of effort from LA, some determination from the Celtics, and it led to such a huge point margin. The Lakers kept missing their shots, then Boston went up the other end and put them all in. They also got so many steals, most of this play-off finals series.

Before I wasn't sure on Rondo, I still don't like him but he had an amazing game. Seem to have more engery than ever, made things happen, hit some big shots and got more than 5 steals if I recall. Kevin Garnett showed again what a player he was by getting the most points, including a lot of rebounds. Pierce was more a play-maker last night, racking up a load of assists.

Anyway, just a great win and a great end to these finals. Celtics deserve it, even though I wanted LA to win.
Congrats to the Celtics, I was hoping this could reach game 7, a pity it didn't. Mind you I was rooting for the Lakers just because of Pau <img src='<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

The Lakers lpayed terrribly. Pau Gasol is a joke, and he needs out. Same with Odom. Trade both of them for like LeBron. That'd be awesome. <img src='<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

pau gasol and Lamar Odom need to stop playing basketball. They can't handle the ball, especially in Game 6.

LeBron and Kobe in one team? But there's only one ball on the court <img src='<#EMO_DIR#>/basketball.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Basketball' />
To be fair, Kobe's been less greedy lately. But his team plays worse when he isn't. <img src='<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />

I'd rather keep LeBron than take Odom and Gasol, already have good players in that position anyway...well at centre anyway. I hear Jermaine O'Neal might be coming to Cavs soon.
