Quote:Marc Salyers of Euroleague newcomers Chorale Roanne was the top scorer in regular season with 21.8 points per game and was given a prestigious Alphonso Ford Award. Although his team 7th in Group C and missed Top 16, Salyers managed to impress spectators with his long range 3-pointers and alley-oop dunks.

His best game of the season came against Fenerbahce Ulker when he scored 40 points. Marc Salyers must have impressed many clubs in Europe with his performances and could receive some offers this summer.

Everyone were expecting Pekovi? of course. The award was his hands down. It doesn't shock me that Gallinari got it, but it's surprising nontheless.

As for Diamantidis, it was not a surprise, although some others could have been picked in the 2nd and 3rd positions. Congrats once again Diamantidis!

Indeed Pekovic should have been give Rising Star award. But the coaches must have looked at the NBA Draft prediction where Gallinari is predicted to be drafted 6th while Pekovic 35th. Seriously, where were they this season. Everyone's been talking about Pekovic so even if they didn't see theg ame they could have heared his name often and one more thing - simply check the stats.

It will be very intersting to watch Pekovic next season in a ckubg with the caliber of PAO.. somtimes playres are good only in small teams. any way I hope it wont be the same case like with Javtokas.

yeah it's only stupid predict, for europeans predict means nothing. We all seen the Master Andriuskevicius with massive predicts. but...?. So same here, if pekovic will go to NBA, i'm sure. even with 20th pick he will go to better team, although gallinari will go to some kind of supersonics team which even with his help will do shit. And I'm absolutely sure that Pekovic will do well better than Galinari in NBA.

Ramunas Siskauskas was named Euroleague MVP of the season 2008. The award was given by former MVP Toni Kukoc. Lithuanian small forward had another great season. Siska averaged 15.6 points per game in regular season, 14.8 in Top 16, 18.7 in quarter-finals.

He scored 16 points in the semi-final against TAU Ceramica. Siskauskas has good chances to win MVP of the Final Four if his team win today against Maccabi and he contributes to the win.

All-Euroleague first and second teams were announced too. Nikola Pekovic was the only player whose team is not in the Final Four. All of the awards were presented by Euroleague legends Arvydas Sabonis, Dejan Bodiroga, Vlade Divac, Toni Kukoc, Bob McAdoo, Dino Meneghin, Walter Szczerbiak.

All-Euroleague First Team

Tiago Splitter (TAU Ceramica)

Terence Morris (Maccabi)

Ramunas Siskauskas (CSKA Moscow)

Well deserved for Siska. He's been very consistent this season and his contribution is getting better as the games are more important.

Hey, where is Greer ??? Come on now, this is pretty unfair for Lynn. He was the best player of Top 16. Anyway...

Quote:CSKA's Messina wins second Gomelskiy Trophy

Euroleague Basketball is proud to announce that CSKA Moscow head coach Ettore Messina is the Aleksander Gomelskiy Coach of the Year Trophy winner for the 2007-08 season. In just his third season in Moscow, Messina led the club to its third straight appearance in the Euroleague title game and second Euroleague title in that span by topping Maccabi Tel Aviv in the 2008 Euroleague Basketball Final Four in Madrid. One of the great minds of modern basketball, Messina becomes the first person to win the Aleksander Gomelskiy Coach of the Year Trophy twice after winning the award in 2006 as well. Messina was voted the winner of the award by a combined panel of his peers, the 24 coaches who finished the Euroleague's 2007-08 season.

Messina’s accomplishments since joining CSKA in 2005 have cemented his status among the great coaches of all time. He was named as one of the 50 legends for the 50 Years of European Club Basketball celebration this season even before he lifted his fourth Euroleague crown, placing him in a tie with greats Pedro Ferrandiz, Aleksandr Gomelskiy and Bozidar Maljkovic for the second most Euroleague titles. Zeljko Obradovic, the 2007 Aleksander Gomelskiy Coach of the Year Trophy winner, leads that list with six titles. Messina is also the only coach to win multiple Euroleague crowns with two teams. He won his first two with Virtus Bologna in 1998 and 2001.

The Aleksander Gomelskiy Coach of the Year Trophy pays tribute to the Russian coaching legend, who was the winning coach of the first-ever Euroleague title. Gomelskiy, the father of basketball in the Soviet Union and Russia, led CSKA to its last Euroleague crown before Messina arrived, in 1971. He passed in 2005 at age 77, shortly after Messina was hired by CSKA. The award has been handed out to the best coach of the Euroleague Basketball season as voted by his peers since 2005.

Messina led CSKA to another remarkable campaign last season. The club won seven straight games at one point en route to winning its regular season and Top 16 groups, despite injuries that forced rotation tinkering and roster changes during the season. The club faced adversity after losing the first game of the best-of-three Quarterfinal Playoffs at home against Olympiacos – a loss that also ended the club’s Euroleague record 27-game home-court winning streak, all under Messina’s watch – but Messina calmly guided his team back to win Game 2 in Greece and then Game 3 handily at home for CSKA’s sixth consecutive trip to the Euroleague Basketball Final Four. He capped the season by winning the Russian championship in a sweep over Khimki.
