Just How Good Was Penny Hardaway?
#1
I was in the barber shop and my man starting going on and on AND on about how good Penny Hardaway was and if would have never gotten hurt he'd be in the hall. Now I don't totally disagree with him because I TRULY thought Penny was the closest thing to the 2nd coming of Magic Johnson except with hops and a jump shot but my barber went on to say how Shaq made Penny's career and after the Magic got swept by the Magic and Shaq left you barely ever heard Penny's name again. So needless to say the whole barber shop is half and half. So what do cats think? Could Penny have made the hall IF he hadn't gotten hurt AND Shaq wasn't on the Magic? Here's a classic game of Penny's Magic against Jordan's Bulls in the Eastern Conference Semi Finals when Jordan came out of retirement...

Here is a great story with Penny!

It was after a Magic's game, when a tall skinny kid went to the locker room(outside ofcourse <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> ) waiting for the journalists to leave in order to get a Shaq's(we was playing in Orlando) autograph. He was his favorite player of all-time.

When they left he approached, with his ball, to Shaq. He wanted to tell him that he was his favorite player ever and to ask for an autograph.

Shaq's response was: "Get a move on. I'm done for the day."

Disappointed and a little shook he started to leave the locker room.

Penny saw this and said to the kid, "give me 15 minutes"...

He came back with a ball signed from every Magic's player including Shaq!

The only sign left was Penny's...!

Hardaway asked... "So who am I writing this to?"

The kid... smiling from ear to ear, not believing his luck said, "Write whatever you want... just put 'To Tracy McGrady' please?". <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thup.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Ohmy' /> <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Cool' /> <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/crazy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Crazy' />

That's why, I think, T-Mac wore #1 in Orlando!!!

Now about Penny as a player, I'm shocked they didn't retire his number.

He was an awesome Magic Johnson like playmaker in terms of his body... he was tall!!

Great scorer, great PLAYMAKER, great defender and great penetrator. He didn't have any huge weakness.

If it wasn't for his injuries... damn... maybe top-50 ever. Yeah, that's right. Come on, Scottie Pippen is an all-time 50... <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bag.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Bag' />

Now, I guess they have to pick between Penny and T-Mac. <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bag.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Bag' />
