As far as I know both teams will have their main squads. This should be a close game but I also think that Oly will win it.

Well Zalgiris lost hoplessly against Siena. The game was equal in for around 25 minutes but then Italians pulled away were increasing the lead till the the final whistle.

It looks like this season could one of the worst in the history of Zalgiris at least in Euroleague. They plan to get a new player but this isn't a solution. I've been saying this for years and I will repeat myself for the 32146547th time. The main problem is the coach and club's board. Zalgiris could have young team with a couple of foreign players and still eb competitive if they had a good coach. But my words are meaningless because nothing will change unless the club will be sold to somoene elses who wants changes.

I don't know much about Zalgiris, Vilius, but it looks like they will really be having a tough time this season.

Tough loss for PAO as well. I think it's more PAO's fault than Barcelona's merits. They didn't play particularly well nor showed their best and their defense was not that aggressive either. PAO was simply not on court tonight (bad transitions, TOs, missed shots, lax attitude in defense, etc).

Begi? (15+7) keeps surprising me, he's (fortunately) turning into a "for real" player <!-- s:p --><!-- s:p -->

Could Nancy be the worst team to ever play in the Euroleague? Losing to Sopot by nearly 30 points isn't acceptable.

Barcelona gave no a chance to panathinaikos to win, the star season of barcelona it is very good for their fans, i thought it will be a equal game but 24 points it is too much for a team like pana.

I dont think that Nancy be the worst team in eaurolegue who ever play. They have very interesting team. Prokom played this game really good. Ewing was amazing. He shot 32 points! 6 attempted for three. It look very nice.I think that Prokom will be in best 16.

There are plans to sign a replacement for Marcus Brown. It should be a boost for the team butI doubt that there will be much changes on the court.

P.S. Welcome to the forum BrandB! I saw your posts earlier but haven't welcomed you yet.

Maccabi "Electra" Tel-Aviv 90 - Air Avellino 83

Quote:Maccabi Electra used a 17-0 surge to open the second half en route to a 90-83 win over Air Avellino on Thursday night at Nokia Arena in Tel Aviv. The win stretched Maccabi’s run to 11 straight seasons in which the club has won its Euroleague home opener. The star of the evening was Carlos Arroyo, who shined bright with 20 points and 8 assists, while Marcus Brown, who capped the big run with back-to-back three-pointers, finished with 15 points in 17 minutes and Lior Eliyahu recorded 15 points on perfect shooting. Maccabi improved to 1-1 in Group A ahead of its home clash with Le Mans next week. Avellino, which next hosts Unicaja, fell to 0-2. The hosts led for much of the game, though Avellino kept it close in the first half, keeping within 2 behind some hot shooting by Drake Diener. Unsportsmanlike fouls by Diener and Tamar Slay gave Maccabi an opportunity to pull away, but the hosts led just 45-39 at halftime. However the 17-point charge that opened the second half essentially put the game out of reach. The lead peaked at 81-54 early in the fourth quarter and Maccabi eased up at that point. Avellino though did not and Chris Warren, Travis Best and Slay led a heroic comeback. But despite cutting the gap to single digits, Avellino ran out of time and Maccabi celebrated the win. D’Or Fischer and Tal Burstein scored 11 points apiece to round out a list of all five Maccabi starters scoring in double figures. Warren led Avellino with 20 points, Marko Tusek and Diener netted 13 each and Slay and Best scored 11 apiece.

QUOTES: "The final difference was 7, because in the last quarter they came back and made a lot of isolations, put big pressure and scored many shots from long range. But that wasn't enough to put our win in danger. We had a lot of good minutes and when we play without pressure, our running game is pretty good. I'm very satisfied with the way Brown fit in. We saw his good qualities tonight." - Efi Birenboim, Maccabi Head Coach

"It was all about the third quarter. They came back from the locker room with a lot of energy and once they opened that gap we couldn't get back in the game. I knew it was like that with Maccabi already from my time in Israel with Hapoel, and I warned my new team about this, but it's Maccabi and they do that no matter who they have on the team." - Tamar Slay, Air Avellino

NOTABLE PLAYERS:

-Carlos Arroyo, Maccabi (20 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds in 35 minutes)

-Marcus Brown, Maccabi (15 points in 17 minutes)

-Lior Eliyahu, Maccabi (15 points, 4 rebounds in 24 minutes)

-D'or Fischer, Maccabi (11 points, 7 rebounds in 26 minutes)

-Chris Warren, Avellino (20 points in 35 minutes)

-Marko Tusek, Avellino (13 points, 6 rebounds in 30 minutes)

-Drake Diener, Avellino (13 points in 27 minutes)

-Tamar Slay, Avellino (11 points, 5 rebounds in 28 minutes)

-Travis Best, Avellino (11 points, 4 assists in 24 minutes)

Le Mans 54 - Cibona Zagreb 58

Quote:Croatian powerhouse Cibona survived a fourth-quarter comeback by Le Mans to pick up an important 54-58 road victory and stay unbeaten in Group A. Cibona is now 2-0 and tied with Olympiacos for first place in the group, while Le Mans fell to 0-2. The hosts trailed for most of the game, but managed to put up a huge 13-0 run to take their first lead at 52-51 with 1:23 to go. However, misses and turnovers on the next two possessions deflated the home crowd and gave Cibona the means to seal the victory from the free throw line. Point guard Earl Calloway led Cibona with 19 points and 5 assists and made 4 key free throws with 10 seconds left. Big man Nikola Prkacin dominated the paint, making all his 8 shots from the field and scoring 13 of his 17 points in the first half to help Cibona build an 18-29 lead. Rawle Marshall added 11 points for the winners and hit the decisive free throws that put Cibona in front with 25 seconds to go. Joao Paulo Batista came off the bench to lead Le Mans with 21 points, scoring all but 2 of them in a monstrous second half. No other Le Mans player reached double figures. The hosts were hurt by poor long-distance shooting as they went 0 for 12 shooting beyond the arc. Cibona was not much better, making just 2 of 14, but all 6 points counted in the end.

http://www.euroleague.net/main/results/sho...ort?gamecode=14

QUOTES:"We played against a very good team. The players were serious and smart, especially at the end of the game. We didn't want to commit fouls. We lost attacks, so it was easier for us to play defense. We didn't want to play an easy game. We want to play in the Top 16. It's important to us to play in the Euroleague again next year." - Velimir Perasovic, Cibona Head Coach

"We practiced the passing game and offensive teamwork all week, but at game time we showed very little patience and were very predictable. Cibona slowed us down with their physical defense and hopefully this will serve as a lesson to us. Otherwise I'm very happy with our defense and if we can find our confidence and teamwork on offense, we can certainly compete in the Euroleague. I never thought we'd finish this game at 0 for 12 from three-points. Hopefully it's just a one-time occurrence." - John-David Jackson, Le Mans Head Coach

NOTABLE PLAYERS:

-Earl Calloway, Cibona (19 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals in 37 minutes)

-Nikola Prkacin, Cibona (17 points, 4 rebounds in 26 minutes)

-Rawle Marshall, Cibona (11 points, 7 rebounds in 30 minutes)

-Joao Paulo Baptista, Le Mans (21 points, 6 rebounds in 28 minutes)

Olympiacos 83 - Unicaja Malaga 72

Quote:Olympiacos improved to 2-0 with an 83-72 win over Unicaja at the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Piraeus, Greece, on Thursday. Ioannis Bourousis stood tall with 20 points and 13 rebounds to pace the Reds, who visit co-Group A leader Cibona next week. Unicaja dropped to 1-1 before its trip to Avellino next week. The home fans built a wonderful atmosphere at the sold-out arena, but Unicaja came ready to ruin the party and led by Marcus Haislip. scored the game’s first 7 points and led 6-15 in the early going. Lynn Greer and Bourousis paced an 11-0 run early in the second period, but the game stayed close and the Reds led 39-38 at halftime. A collective team effort led by Bourousis, Josh Childress and Giorgos Printezis saw Olympiacos pull away in the third quarter. Robert Archibald and Boniface NDong continued to battle for Unicaja down the stretch, but Olympiacos was able to hold on and take an impressive win. Childress finished with 15 points, Printezis added 12 and Greer had 11 for the home team. Archibald paced Unicaja with 17 points and 7 rebounds, Thomas Kelati scored all of his 15 points from downtown and Haislip and NDong added 11 each.

http://www.euroleague.net/main/results/sho...ort?gamecode=15

QUOTES:"We controlled the game tempo for the best part of the game. We didn't play well in the first quarter, but what matters is the score at the end of the game. We were patient and I think that we pleased our fans, generally speaking. It is still the beginning of the season, so there is a lot of time in front of us to work and improve." - Panagiotis Giannakis, Olympiacos Head Coach

“We managed to build an early 10-point, lead but soon that margin disappeared. We lacked consistency, and that was one of the keys to this game. When you face a team like Olympiacos, you have to be concentrated for 40 minutes. It is really tough to escape with a win from the Piraeus." - Boniface N'Dong, Unicaja

NOTABLE PLAYERS:

-Ioannis Bourousis, Olympiacos (20 points, 13 rebounds in 19 minutes)

-Josh Childress, Olympiacos (15 points, 4 rebounds in 30 minutes)

-Thomas Kelati, Unicaja (15 points in 26 minutes)

-Marcus Haislip, Unicaja (11 points, 5 rebounds in 31 minutes)

Asseco Prokom 91 - SLUC Nancy 62

Quote:Asseco Prokom registered its first win in Group B by thrashing Sluc Nancy 91-62 in Sopot, Poland on Wednesday night. Prokom bounced back from its initial loss in Group B to improve to 1-1, while Nancy dropped to 0-2 and needs to start winning right away to keep its Top 16 chances alive. Daniel Ewing paced the winners with 32 points on 7-for-9 two-pointers and 6-for-8 three-pointers. David Logan had 18, Pat Burke added 16 while Filip Dylewicz got 12 for Prokom, that rolled in the second half to register a big home win. Cyril Julian led Nancy with 17 points. Ewing took over after the break with 14 points, including four bombs from downtown, in the third quarter. He led Prokom to get a 13-point lead, 60-47, after 30 minutes. Ewing soon boosted Prokom's margin to 65-47 and the hosts never looked back.

Montepaschi Siena 93 - Zalgiris 67

Quote:Montepaschi Siena had a trick or two up its sleeve when visiting Zalgiris Kaunas in Group B on Thursday - its own Lithuanians. Two of those Montepaschi imports - Rimantas Kaukenas and Ksistof Lavrinovic - led a second-half surge that let the Italian champions win going away, 67-93, to stay undefeated. Zalgiris, meanwhile, dropped to 0-2 despite leading for much of the first half. Kaukenas exploded in the second and finished with 27 points. Lavrinovic finished as his team's top performer with 15 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocks. Romain Sato added 18 points to the cause and Henry Domercant 11. For Zalgiris, Paulius Jankunas dropped 16 points and Loren Woods 15, but most of that came in the first half. Montepaschi's defense held the hosts to just 24 points after halftime, at which time Zalgiris had led 43-40. In the end, however, Zalgiris cold not stop Montepaschi near the basket, as the visitors hit an amazing 30 of 40 two-point shots (75%) to win despite shooting only 4 free throws all game.

http://www.euroleague.net/main/results/sho...ort?gamecode=17

QUOTES: "It's a very important victory for us, because it's always hard to win here in this gym where the fans create a great atmosphere. We played good enough in the first half, but committed too many turnovers and made too many mistakes on defense. Zalgiris scored 43 points in the first half and 24 in the second. I think that difference was made by our improved defense in the second half. I used 11 players in different rotations in the first half so they were fresh at the in the end." - Simone Pianigiani, Montepaschi Head Coach

"It's very sad that we lost the game. But I am still optimistic because we have more games coming up. And we work very hard. And when you work very hard, anything can happen." - Loren Woods, Zalgiris

NOTABLE PLAYERS:

-Rimantas Kaukenas, Montepaschi (27 points in 28 minutes)

-Romain Sato, Montepaschi (18 points in 25 minutes)

-Ksistof Lavrinovic, Montepaschi (15 points, 4 rebounds, 3 blocks in 21 minutes)

-Henry Domercant, Montepaschi (11 points in 21 minutes)

-Paulius Jankunas, Zalgiris (16 points, 4 rebounds in 26 minutes)

-Loren Woods, Zalgiris (15 points, 8 rebounds in 33 minutes)

Regal FC Barcelona 90 - Panathinaikos 66

Quote:A showdown between superpowers turned into a one-sided affair in Group B on Thursday as Regal FC Barcelona blew away visiting Panathinaikos 90-66 in a game that was never close after the first few minutes. Barcelona raised its record to 2-0 and shares first place in the group with Montepaschi Siena, while Panathinaikos fell to even at 1-1. A variety of offensive firepower and a defense that allowed Panathinaikos very few options spelled early dominance as Barcelona led by double digits after one quarter and never looked back. Juan Carlos Navarro paced the winners with 21 points and 4 assists. Ersan Ilyasova followed with 14 points and Fran Vazquez with 12. Roger Grimau and David Andersen added 9 each. Barça absolutely ruled the inside, winning 36-23 on the boards rebounds and holding Panathinaikos to 10-for-39 (29%) two-point shooting through three quarters, after which the difference rose as high as 32 points. Nikola Pekovic led the Greens with 15 points, while Mike Batiste had most of his 14 in the final quarter and Dimitris Diamantidis added 10. Panathinaikos saw 5 different players miss all of their two-point attempts, 13 in all among them.

http://www.euroleague.net/main/results/sho...ort?gamecode=18

QUOTES: "I am very happy. This was our first against a tough opponent. The team was perfect playing at home. At no point did we let them get into the game. We will go out to win every game, but there is still a long way to go. Panathinaikos did not play up to its level. They have very good players, but it is too early to say whether they are candidates for the Final Four or not." - Juan Carlos Navarro, Barcelona

"There was one team playing basketball and another one walking around tonight. We had a very slow start and were always a second behind them, I don't know why. We have to analyze our mistakes. Barcelona played well, but that’s not a surprise to us. We expected Barcelona to play well, but we didn't expect this game from us. We played slow, without aggressiveness, lacking ideas on offense. We have to improve a lot." - Sarunas Jasikevicius, Panathinaikos

NOTABLE PLAYERS:

-Juan Carlos Navarro, Barcelona (21 points, 4 assists in 27 minutes)

-Ersan Ilyasova, Barcelona (14 points, 6 rebounds in 20 minutes)

-Fran Vasquez, Barcelona (12 points, 7 rebounds in 22 minutes)

-Nikola Pekovic, Panathinaikos (15 points in 18 minutes)

-Mike Batiste, Panathinaikos (14 points, 4 rebounds in 24 minutes)

-Dimitris Diamantidis, Panathinaikos (10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists in 33 minutes)

Union Olimpija 90 - Tau Ceramica 91

Quote:Tau Ceramica survived a tough test and stayed undefeated in Group C by edging Union Olimpija 90-91 in Ljubljana, Slovenia on Thursday. Mirza Teletovic became the game hero by hitting the game-winning floating layup with 2.7 seconds to go. Olimpija that rallied from a 21-point deficit in the final 16 minutes to get a 90-89 lead on a three-pointer by Jonathan Wallace, but Teletovic allowed Tau to move up to 2-0 and become the only undefeated team in Group C. Meanwhile, Olimpija dropped to 0-2 and hosts Lottomatica Roma next week. Teletovic also led the winners with 18 points. Tiago Splitter added 16 on 5-for-7 two-pointers and 6-for-7 free throws, Igor Rakocevic had 13, Fernando San Emeterio got 12 while Pablo Prigioni contributed 10 for Tau. Saso Ozbolt led Olimpija with 18 points on 4-for-5 three-pointers. Marko Milic added 16, Mirza Begic and Vlado Ilievski each had 15 while Wallace got 11 for the hosts, pushed by an extraordinary crowd at Tivoli Arena. Olimpija had a final chance to win the game, but Ilievski missed a long jumper right at the buzzer.

http://www.euroleague.net/main/results/sho...ort?gamecode=19

QUOTES: "It was a very interesting game. We played well in the opening three quarters. We didn't play good defense in the fourth quarter and stopped believing in ourselves. Union Olimpija showed they have good players and that they can beat any Euroleague team, especially here at Tivoli." - Dusko Ivanovic, Tau Head Coach

"We lost the game, but could have also won it. We managed to rally from a 21-point deficit and get back in the game. We are a young team that is still learning to play at this level and win tough, balanced games. I believe that we can only play better in the future. We did not play well in the first half, allowing Teletovic a lot of space for open shots. We showed the material we are made of after the break." - Aleksandar Dzikic, Olimpija Head Coach

NOTABLE PLAYERS:

-Mirza Teletovic, Tau (18 points, 4 rebounds in 29 minutes)

-Tiago Splitter, Tau (16 points, 4 rebounds, 3 blocks in 21 minutes)

Lottomatica Roma 85 - DKV Joventut 71

Quote:Three players scored in double figures as Lottomatica Roma held off DKV Joventut 85-71 for its first victory in Group C of the Euroleague. Ibrahim Jaaber led the way with 17 points and Sani Becirovic added 15 points including a four-point play and another three-pointer in a decisive 17-0 run in the third quarter. Andre Hutson added 10 points and 11 rebounds while Rodrigo de la Fuente had 9 points and Primoz Brezec chipped in 8 points and 9 rebounds. Roma bounced back from its season-opening loss at Alba Berlin to improve to 1-1 in Group C ahead of a trip to Union Olimpija. DKV Joventut meanwhile dropped to 1-1 despite 23 points and 14 rebounds from Pops Mensah-Bonsu. Bracey Wright added 14 points and Edu Hernandez-Sonseca had 11, but it was not enough. Joventut gets a chance to return to the winning column at home next week against Fenerbahce.

http://www.euroleague.net/main/results/sho...ort?gamecode=20

QUOTES: "I am satisfied with the victory but not with the game, as we lost three out of four quarters. We must play 25 minutes more of aggressive defense if we want to go to the Top 16. We must play as we played at the beginning of the first quarter tonight, and during the last 8 minutes of the third quarter." - Jasmin Repesa, Roma Head Coach

"We started well with the right mentality and energy. In the second half, we lost the game and the third quarter was decisive. We couldn't score because Rome played hard and with that, they made a decisive break that brought them to the victory." - Pops Mensah-Bonsu, Joventut

NOTABLE PLAYERS:

Fenerbahce Ulker 82 - Alba Berlin 73

Quote:Mirsad Turkcan poured in 25 points including 4 three-pointers as Fenerbahce Ulker collected its first victory of the regular season in Group C, beating Alba Berlin 82-73 at home in Istanbul on Thursday. Turkcan scored 17 of his points in the first half and also grabbed 9 rebounds. Damir Kaan Mrsic nailed 5 triples in scoring 17 points and dished 4 assists, while Oguz Savas came off the bench for 12 points. And Emir Preldzic added 9 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals. The Turkish side made 12 triples total in bouncing back from its opening-week loss at Tau Ceramica to even its record at 1-1. The game also featured the debut of 16-year-old Fenerbahce prospect Enes Kanter, who had 5 points, 3 rebounds and 1 steal in nearly 10 minutes of action – becoming the first player born in the year 1992 to play in the Euroleague. Berlin dropped to 1-1 in the group despite a game-high 26 points from Julius Jenkins. But the guard did not get enough support even though Immanuel McElroy added 15 points and 9 rebounds. Adam Chubb had 9 points and 6 rebounds in a losing effort. Berlin did not help itself by making just 13-of-26 free throws.

QUOTES: "It was a very difficult game, as we expected. Alba Berlin put its character in the game. They used tricky defensive tactics to stop us and it was really hard to deal with it. We knew that it was going to be hard, but not that hard. We are really very happy to win the game. I watched Alba during their game against Lottomatica Roma last week. They performed extraordinarily in thatgame. And that’s what they repeated this evening. The one who gave us trouble in the game was Julius Jenkins. It was an extraordinary night for him, too. We had too many missed attempts from the low post. But anyway, I'm happy to win the game. We were expecting Gordan Giricek to play tonight, but he was not ready enough. We are planning to put him on the court in our domestic league at the weekend, but just for 10 minutes of time." - Bogdan Tanjevic, Fenerbahce Head Coach

"First of all, I congratulate Fenerbahce Ulker for their win. It was a tough game for both sides. Fenerbahce Ulker ruled the game for most of the 40 minutes but we also remained in the game until the last minute. We caught the momentum of the game more than once but weren't able to match it with our performance to win the game. We made easy mistakes in the critical minutes, especially in those hot moments like in the last couple of minutes. We scored just half of the free throws we had. Anyway, we will keep on trying and challenging to move to the next stage with all our aim." - Luka Pavicevic, Berlin Head Coach

NOTABLE PLAYERS:

-Mirsad Turkcan, Fenerbahce (25 points, 9 rebounds in 28 minutes)

-Damir Mrsic Kaan, Fenerbahce (17 points, 4 assists in 24 minutes)

-Oguz Savas, Fenerbahce (12 points in 23 minutes)

-Julius Jenkins, Alba (26 points in 29 minutes)

-Immanuel McEnroy, Alba (15 points, 9 rebounds in 29 minutes)

Partizan Belgrade 81 - Real Madrid 77

Quote:It was lucky number 13 for Partizan Belgrade as the Serbian champs came from behind in the fourth quarter to beat Real Madrid 81-77 for the first time in club history on Wednesday night at Pionir Arena. All five starters scored in double figures as head coach Dusko Vujosevic’s men held on with a gritty performance that ended a run of 12 straight losses to Madrid. Parizan improved to 1-1 in Group D and will host Armani jeans Milano in the Serbian capital next week. Madrid dropped to 1-1 and will host Euroleague champion CSKA Moscow next week. Partizan took a big early lead as Milenko Tepic and Aleksandar Rasic heated up in the first quarter and remained on top 44-38 at halftime. Quinton Hosley scored 7 straight points in a 0-13 third-quarter run as Madrid took its first lead. However Rasic, Novica Velickovic and Cedomir Vitkovac led Partizan back to tie it and set up a thrilling fourth quarter. Strong defense and clutch triples from Tepic and Rasic put Partizan back on top, but the game would remain close till the end. In the last minute, the hosts stayed focused and Hosley committed an unsportsmanlike foul on Uros Tripkovic that allowed Partizan’s fans to celebrate early. Rasic finished with 18 points, Tepic scored 16 and dished 5 assists, Velickovic added 13 points, Stephane Lasme 12 and Vitkovac 10. Sergio Llull came off the bench to pace Madrid with 19, Hosley recorded 14 points and 8 rebounds, Felipe Reyes added 11 points and Lazaros Papadopoulos had 10 for the visitors, who shot 2 for 12 from downtown.

"Everytime we come to Belgrade, I say that us or Partizan has the talent to reach the Final Four. Congratulations to Partizan on its really good game tonight. We did not shoot well from three-point range and had a lot of problems to rebound, too. We are still able to stand up and improve our game during the season. Armani Jeans Milano 71- Efes Pilsen 81

Quote:Efes Pilsen stayed undefeated in Group D and ties with CSKA for first place by downing Armani Jeans Milano 71-81 on the road on Wednesday night. Efes improved to 2-0 while AJ Milano dropped to 0-2. Milos Vujanic led the winners with 19 points. Bootsy Thornton added 17, Charles Smith had 14, Michalis Kakiouzis got 12 while Kerem Gonlum contributed 10 and 9 rebounds for Efes. David Hawkins led Milano with 20 points. Thomas, Mordente and Hawkins brought Milano within 69-75 but Thornton stepped up to make a more experienced Efes seal a well-deserved win.

QUOTES:"We had many problems in the middle of the game. We were okay at the beginning and we had a good finish in the last quarter. We struggled on offense and didn't find our rhythm. Sangare struggled a lot against their pressure, but we had a good reaction as a team. This is a very hard period for us, because of the defeats and the injuries. But our team never gave up. Mike Hall is doing better and better and I think we saw good signs of things to come from our team." - Piero Bucchi, Milano Head Coach

"We dominated the game from the first to the last minute. We missed our center [Mario Kasun], but we were lucky because Milano is without Pape Sow at the same time. We missed some easy shots against their zone defense in the last quarter, but winning on the road is always difficult. This is a good result for us, a deserved win. They played with zone defense in Moscow and we knew that it was a good option for them. Maybe we would have had more problems, had they used it earlier." - Ergin Ataman, Efes Head Coach

NOTABLE PLAYERS:

-Milos Vujanic, Efes (19 points, 4 rebounds in 30 minutes)

-Bootsy Thornton, Efes (17 points, 4 assists, 4 steals in 35 minutes)

-Charles Smith, Efes (14 points, 5 rebounds in 34 minutes)

-Michailis Kakiouzis, Efes (12 points in 29 minutes)

-Kerem Gonlum, Efes (10 points, 9 rebounds in 33 minutes)

-Jobey Thomas, Milano (14 points in 28 minutes)

-Marco Mordente, Milano (13 points in 25 minutes)

-Michael Hall, Milano (10 points, 6 rebounds in 33 minutes)

Panionios On Telecoms 52 - CSKA Moscow 86

Quote:The first Euroleague home game for Panionos On Telecoms this decade came with an inconvenient detail for the hosts: the name of the opponent. The reigning Euroleague champions from CSKA Moscow took no pity on Panionios in its Group D home opener and rolled to a 52-86 victory in Athens on Wednesday. That didn't dampen the spirits of the local fans, however, as they stayed on their feet chanting all the way to the final buzzer. CSKA took control early and kept adding chunks to the lead until the game was out of reach for Panionios soon after halftime. CSKA's inside advantage was illustrated by 59% two-point shooting (25 for 42), a 24-45 rebounding advantage and 7 blocked shots to zero by Panionios. Not surprisingly, big man Erazem Lorbek led the winners with 17 points, while Nikos Zisis came off the bench to add 14. Despite suffocating defense throughout by the visitors, Panionios got 14 points from Branko Cvetkovic, 11 from Ioannis Kalambokis and 10 from Goran Nikolic. CSKA improved to 2-0 in Group D while Panionios continues to look for a first victory.

http://www.euroleague.net/main/results/sho...ort?gamecode=24

QUOTES: "I want to congratulate CSKA not only for their win, but also for their performance. I am the last one who will try to find an excuse for our poor performance, but the truth is that there were some factors that influenced the level of our performance tonight. We had some problems with our big guys. Baxter stayed all night in the hospital with stomach flu, whereas Raicevic and Kendall faced also some problems that did not allow us to prepare for tonight's game. Plus Giannoulis was sidelined with an injury. However, all these problems apart, I am not satisfied with our effort, especially on the defensive end. We shouldn't have allowed ourselves to be defensively outplayed by CSKA. The best example is Lorbek, who scored 17 points in the first half, but our frontcourt players did not even try to foul him. The guys who were guarding him had committed only one foul each. The Euroleague should be a lesson for us that will help us to become stronger and play better in the Greek League.” - Aleksandar Trifunovic, Panionios Head Coach

"We respect Panionios. We knew that they are well organized and disciplined on the court. We knew that we had to play a good game in order to win and so we did. We played very good defense and we stayed focused throughout the game. Yes, we play without Theodoros Papaloukas this season. In the beginning we weren't very happy with his decision to return to Greece, but eventually his departure gave us the chance to bring three new players to the team. It's easy to think about the glory days of the past, but we moved on and now we are starting to progress as a team and to obtain a better chemistry. Regarding Nikos Zisis, I'm very happy with his performance. It wasn't easy for him in the first year and also this summer probably was not his best summer with the national team. However, now he is playing with more confidence and is more aggressive. I hope that he continues like that without putting too much pressure on himself. He is a very good player." - Ettore Messina, CSKA Head Coach

NOTABLE PLAYERS:

-Erazem Lorbek, CSKA (17 points, 6 rebounds in 20 minutes)

-Nikos Zisis, CSKA (14 points in 25 minutes)

-Trajan Langdon, CSKA (10 points in 21 minutes)

-Terrence Morris, CSKA (9 points, 9 rebounds, 5 blocks in 27 minutes)

-Branko Cvetkovic, Panionios (14 points in 33 minutes)

-Ionnais Kalampokis, Panionios (11 points in 30 minutes)

-Goran Nikolic, Panionios (10 points in 32 minutes)
