Quote:Ten Countries Express Interest In Hosting 2013 EuroBaskets

Following the decision of the Board of FIBA Europe to open the bidding process for EuroBasket and EuroBasket Women 2013, ten National Federations have expressed a written interest in staging the events.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy and Slovenia have brought forward a potential candidature for the EuroBasket.

Belarus, France, Serbia and Slovakia are interested in hosting EuroBasket Women.

All Federations who have submitted the letter of interest will receive by mid-June 2010 the EuroBasket 2013 or EuroBasket Women 2013 Bid Dossier and the Event Manual which outlines in detail all the conditions and the various aspects of the bid.

After studying the two documents the countries who will be interested in submitting a formal candidature will have to do so by 31st August 2010.

A FIBA Europe Evaluation Commission will then visit the bidding countries in September and October 2010. Following those visits the Commission will prepare a report for the Board of FIBA Europe.

Each candidate Federation will also be invited to make a presentation at the autumn session of the Board, which will decide on the organisers of EuroBasket 2013 and EuroBasket Women 2013.

Slovenian government will cover just 1.16m euros out of the 6.5m euros that is the organising fees. And to think the original fee was 8m but the Slovenian delegation managed to negotiate it down to 6.5m.

Doesn't look good so far.

What are referring to stefans? Slovenia surely doesn't need to qualify for the tournament that they are hosting. What is the qualification requirements for the other countries?

I agree Led00 but it would be great to get the games out to the rest of the UK outside of London.

Yeah the Brits have a couple of arenas. Big deal. Some of you should stop trumping up that little nation as a basketball player. Figuratively speaking they don't play the game, don't have the teams necessary to compete, not even at EC level, and don't like the sport.

This point is 'moot' and no further discussion necessary. They DON'T deserve an EB tournament. Let the NBA go play it's exhibition games there and nobody is the wiser. To give you an example, in italy they do play cricket, so should that be a prerequisite for candidacy for an international cricket tournament? I think not. It all boils down to popularity, history and culture. They DON'T have it, so don't give me the 'promotion of the game bullshit scenario.' It don't cut it. Enough said on the Brits... <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Laugh' />
