Nice league presentation. What are the chances of other teams to challenge Maccabi for the title? I think that not many saw Hapoel Holon winning the league last year.

In one game EVERYTHING can happen, Maccabi even can lose in the semi-finals. the Final-four system main goal is to make the league more competitive since in a series no team can win over Maccabi.

The main contender's (exept Maccabi) are Hapoel Jerusalem Haifa Heat and Bnei Hasharon. Hapoel Jerusalem is obviously the main contender and they added Turin Francis (from Larrisa in the greek league) to have a better match-up with Maccabi's big-men. Haifa Heat has a wide roster and have two of the best players in the league (Perkins and Jeffreson). Bnei Hasharon has ton's of talent but up until now they are under-achieving, but they can be dangerous to any team including Maccabi.

Hapoel Holon (last year Champ) isn't really a threat, they have very nice "7 seconds or less" offense (like the Phoenix Suns from the NBA) but their static offense isn't so good and their defense is very bad.

Even tough, Maccabi is a clear favourite and no one here in Israel dare to bet against Maccabi. last year Maccabi lost most of the game's in the Israeli league in the clutch moments, even in the final game Maccabi led all the game and Holon first lead was 1 second to the end of the game. Maccabi's last year main player was Yotam Halperin which has Mental problem at the final moments.

this year Maccabi has 2 great clutch player's: both Marcus Brown and Carlos Arroyo.

but still we saw this week how Khimki as a clear favourite lost to Rytas in one game, so again EVERYTHING could happen in the Israeli Final-Four...

Does it really matter? Maccabi has got the only Euroleague spot that Israel got <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

I think that the title could be only considered as a matter of honour only if the final couple is Maccabi-Hapoel Jerusalem. Any other final will be just meaningless.
Respect and thanks for everything:

Alvertis, Bodiroga, Jasikevicius, Radja, Wilkins, Vrankovic, Fotsis, Rebraca, Kattash, Gentile, Koch, Middleton, Kutluay, Rogers, Papadopoulos, Becirovic, Tomasevic, Siskauskas, Pekovic, Lakovic, Vujanic, Chatzivrettas, Maljkovic, Spanoulis and many more to follow in the near future.

Well, winning the championship as a lot of meaning to the teams even tough it won't affect which team will go to the Euroleague. every team that take a title from Maccabi is making history, and in the final-Four system it is easier to win the championship.

Let me put it this way, Rytas and Zalgiris both will go to the Euroleague next season, do you think any of them will give up winning the LKL?

No they won't give it up in case the Final will be between these two teams. If for example the Final will be Zalgiris-Siauliai and Siauliai wins, only Siauliai fans will care about this and think they made history.

For example Zalgiris losing to an Estonian team in the BBL this year will hardly make any effect on their fans but for the fans of the Estonian teams it will be a once a lifetime experience, but only for them, the rest of the world will not care.

Basketball in Europe is about rivalries, if the rivalries are broken by a third party team, it is pretty much non-factor for anyone except the fans of that team. That is what I meant and I think the only rivalry in Israel worth a mention is Maccabi-Hapoel, or not?

The main (and almost only) rivalry in Israel is Maccabi-Hapoel, but to the every team's fan's it is very important to win the championship. every team exept of Maccabi want to make history, Mainly Hapoel who didn't won a single chapionship yet altough the are one of the best team's in Israel in the last to decades.

Maccabi want the championship very bad after they lost the championship last year, Shimon Mizrhai (Maccabi chairman) say every time that in first place come's the championship and then come the Euroleague. in the last two years Maccabi coaches got fired over losing in the Israeli league, not over losing in the Euroleague (that why Zvi Sherf who got to the final game in the Euroleague but lost the championship, didn't continued with Maccabi this year).

Maccabi players Charles Gaines and Aaron McGhee was caught at a club in 4 AM, when they had a morning practice the next day. both of them was fined in about 20,000$ and in addition there will be a disciplinary committee that will take more sanctions (the commite can consider releasing the player and terminating his contract or suspending the player).

Both Gaines and McGhee went to the same club that Fischer went and got attacked and injured ("The Mendy's"), and Gains already got fined about going out clubbing with Fischer the night Fischer got injured. so I guess the sanction's against Gaines will be severe.
