It's a shame that I couldn't go to the game. The atmosphere was amazing. Although it is always great when NT is playing at home but this game was special. The moment when Garbajosa started arguing with Kleiza and then instead of responding to Garbajosa's comments Kleiza said a couple of words to him and moved away waving the crowd which made a huge noise expressing its support.

Some facts about the game.

Spanish players are used to playing at home with their own referees and that hurt them in Vilnius. They were looking at the refs waiting for a foul to be called right from the start of the game. It must be noted that referees allowed more physical game compared to what the referees allow in Spain. And obviously Spanish players are not used to that. Honestly it was nice to see them frustrated when the refs are not protecting them. Physical game suits Lithuania better. Spain had to adjust but they failed to do that. There are all kinds of referees in the game. Some call every touch as a foul and some allow to play a physical game. That's how it is and the players should not get surprised by that.

Another thing that you get when playing at home is crowd's support. Spain missed lots free-throws and three-point shots. I think that a great crowd which supported Lithuania had an impact on that.

It was the first game during the preparation period when we played nice basketball even though we had no point guards. It was a cure for the eyes after seeing that ugly game that we played in other games. Butautas forces the team to play slow basketball. Each offence lasts for almost 20 seconds. The players are not allowed to improvize. That's not how Lithuania plays! This style doesn't fit our players. Simple as that. Since Butautas was appointed the head coach I was saying the same thing. In previous summers we had Jasikevičius at PG. Butautas respected him and couldn't put him in his schemes. But still the team was different. The pace was slower than it usually is. When we play our game which is fast with every player able to score then we are hard to stop by any team. But when we try to play slow this is a different team. Even against weaker opponents we struggle and the game becomes harder than it should be. I think it's clear to everyone that when you play slow then your opponents have much easier work to do in defence.

Lithuania got a boost to their confidence ahead of Eurobasket while Spain learned a good lesson that they are not invincible.
