So I don't get it. Will there be a draw or not? Some sources say Russia and Lithuania goes to A group and other says only draw will decide the place of the teams...

Congrats with great victory!

I thought that the two direct qualifiers went to Group A and the third qualifier went to Group B. I hope you are correct and they do a draw.

FIBA.com has not updated their Olympic schedule to show Russia and Lithuania in Group A but they updated the page earlier in the day to show Russia as one of the qualified teams. Not sure whether that means there will be a draw or simply that FIBA has lazy staff. Either way it is poor communication by both FIBA and the Olympic committee on how this works.

There will be a draw after Nigeria vs. Dominican Republic. Good catch Straight Forward!

Quote:The remaining 3 qualifiers for the Men’s tournament will be decided at the Olympic qualifying tournament featuring Angola, Dominican Republic, Greece, Jordan, Korea, Lithuania, FYROM, New Zealand, Nigeria, Puerto Rico, Russia and Venezuela – a draw on the final day of the qualifying tournament on July 8th will determine which of the 3 qualifying teams join which groups

Well that's kind of shitty tournament you get from a country that isn't on the basketball map... Venezuela <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

How can the crappiness of officiating just go like that unnoticed and no comments from anyone, at least not having heard anything from the press so far.

Fantastic performance by Nigeria to secure the third berth. Aminu and Diogu played their hearts out.

With the Dominicans coming so close you really have to question Calipari's decision to cut Charlie Villanueva. I don't know what Villanueva did to piss him off but it looks like Calipari's ego got the best of him. It is hard to think that even if Villanueva wasn't 100%, a limited role off of the bench might have made the difference between a trip to London and a long flight home.

Here in the states this entire tournament has gone under the radar. Last year's Eurobasket and Tournament of the Americas were both broadcasted on ESPN3 and you could find mention of the results on any sports page.

With teams playing in those tournaments for the right to play in this tournament it is a bit crazy that there is no mention of Russia and Lithuania's qualification yesterday in the media let alone the results throughout the tournament.

I don't think that Venezuela was a good selection. I don't think that it got the revenues FIBA could have gotten out of Lithuania or even FYROM. It didn't spur fan interest after Venezuela's early exit. The arena was unfit for basketball in my opinion and the officiating was atrocious (however, to be fair that likely would have been the result irrespective of where the tournament was located). The only good aspect of this tournament besides coinciding perfectly with my work schedule <img src='http://www.talkbasket.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Cool' /> was that it was about the closest thing to a neutral court that you could ask for. I don't think that any team had a virtual home court advantage once Venezuela was knocked out.

With that said I think that it is nearly certain that the 2016 Pre-Olympic tournament will be in Africa.

Lithuania and Nigeria will get the chance for a rematch as both teams will be in Group A. Russia instantly becomes the second best team in Group B.
